Annapolis graduate Hintz to be commissioned this month
William B R Hintz, son of Mr and Mrs Harold Hintz of Oelwein, will graduate from the U S Naval Academy at Annapolis in June and be commissioned as an ensign. He entered in 1944 after passing the entry exam while in public high school here. He served on the Log staff as exchange editor and was on the rig committee. He earned an electrical engineering degree and will spend a month home before reporting for duty.

Wadena High School Closes With Picnic After Commencement

Dr Robert A Stewart Dies at Independence Hospital
Dr. Robert A Stewart 69 longtime superintendent of the Independence State Mental hospital died at his apartment on the hospital grounds after a heart attack. Born November 6 1878 in Lock Haven Pa he practiced psychiatry at several state hospitals before leading Independence. He is survived by two sons Robert of Los Angeles and Frank of Chicago and served as a psychiatric examiner in World Wars. His body was sent to Turner's Mortuary Cedar Rapids awaiting arrival of his son.

Complete Plans For Girl Scout Camping Trip
The Girl Scout association of Oelwein met in the Chamber of Commerce office to finalize camping plans. They still need about $100 to send all 86 girls to Clear Lake and ask contributors to leave money with John Borland at the Independent store. They seek 27 camping cots and ask anyone with one to call 123 for a two week loan. The first group of 43 departs Sunday at 12 30 from the Chamber of Commerce office, followed by a second 43 the next Sunday. Equipment should be delivered to the office the preceding Saturday afternoon. Counselors for the two weeks include Mrs. Mel Safranck, Mrs. L Proctor, Mrs Faye Bloomfield, Gladys Kirkendall, and Mrs A A Kaskadden. two more will be announced. Senior girls will assist as aides. Mrs J Wilke is the cook. Car owners able to drive to Clear Lake should contact Mrs Neil King.
