Maynard Home Damaged When Heater Explodes
A Maynard home occupied by Mrs Maude Rademaker sustained major damage after a bottle gas hot water heater exploded around 9 30 this morning. The north and east walls were torn, windows broken, and furniture in the front room ruined though insured. Samuelson the plumber was uninjured, and Mrs Rademaker, Dale and Tom Samuelson were present. The house is owned by Lloyd Schult of Maynard.

Spaniel Saves Masters Life in Washington Town
In Seremerton Washington Dale E Wilson fell into an abandoned 12 foot well during a nightly walk with his spaniel Penney. The dog waited at the edge for five days whining and peering down as Wilson struggled to climb out. After days of shock and starvation Wilson was rescued with help from his girlfriend who followed Penney to the well and returned with a rope. Penney the hero dog saved his owner when the woman finally helped secure a rope and pull him to safety. The dog’s loyalty drew praise from hospital staff who reported Wilson’s recovery begins. The girlfriend declined to reveal her name saying Penney is the hero not her.

DES MOINES Special Assistant Attorney General Jens Grothe said the Polk county grand jury is investigating purchases and sales of the state war surplus commodities board. Benny Wichman, secretary of the board, was subpoenaed to bring records before the grand jury as the probe continues on July 7 with evidence from other officials.
