Ole Bratten, 83, remained in serious condition at Mercy Hospital after suffering a stroke Tuesday around 3:45 p.m. The incident occurred on First Avenue near his home as he was walking home, according to hospital reports.

Eight persons were reported drowned and three missing after overnight rains in western Oklahoma. More than fifty locals signified intent to join the National Guard unit as enlistments near the 71 member quota. AMES UP-President Charles E. Friley of Iowa State was treated today for a fractured collarbone and four broken ribs after his State car overturned yesterday. He was returning to Ames from Des Moines when he skidded onto the shoulder while braking behind a car and the vehicle rolled over. Passing motorists freed him and called an ambulance.
Maynard special report says Mrs. Evelyn Arthur received a telegram that Pvt. Robert Arthur is enroute to the United States. The exact arrival date in Maynard is not yet determined.

Storm damage estimates rose to about 106000 in Fremont County Iowa after a tornado swept through the area and parts of Nebraska and Iowa last night.
