Ermal Bowman reports from Nome Alaska in August 1923 about rough seas delaying a boat charter, Eskimo entertainments, a Brown Brothers orchestra, and a canceled dance. He describes northern nights, star positions, local terrain tundra and ponds, dredging for gold, and a crew of Scandinavian workers with pack dogs and rogue wolves.
We express heartfelt thanks to all who assisted during the death and burial of our husband and father Geo Messick.
The Narcissus Club entertained families with a Wednesday chicken fry at the city park. Practically all members attended and the evening proved enjoyable.
Pearl Chestnut Roach died at her home three miles south of Odon after a long illness from tuberculosis. Born in 1886 she was 27 at death, daughter of Harvey and Anna Chestnut. She married Walter Roach April 2 of this year and leaves a daughter Maxine and brothers Jesse and Ray. Funeral at Shiloh church Tuesday at 2 pm with Rev. Edwin F Shake. burial in Rasileville Cemetery.
William Summerville, a Burne City teacher at Amo Indiana, was seriously injured yesterday when struck by a truck. He suffered a broken leg and other bruises and was taken to Linton Hospital for treatment.
Members of the Christian Church welcomed Rev. S. F. Spainhower who arrived from Herrin Illinois with a reception last Tuesday at the church. An program of music readings and talks followed by refreshments in the basement. The household goods were delayed but arrived last week and the family settled at the parsonage on Em Street. Edison fountain pens advertised at Rexail Store.

Washington Herald reports 18 year old Thomas Wilson of Elnora pleaded not guilty before Judge Hastings to a circuit court charge of vehicle taking. The auto owned by John Eads allegedly disappeared Saturday night. Wilson was remanded to jail but later parole granted on good behavior under Judge Hastings warning that the severe penalties would not be enforced if he behaves himself.

George W Messick longtime resident of East Odon died at his home last Friday due to general debility. Born 1850 in the community he married Mary E Callahan in 1886 and had six children. Survived by his wife, six children, a stepson, a sister and two half sisters, with funeral services conducted by Rev C H Buchanan and Rev S F Spainhower at the Christian church and burial at Walnut Hill.
Tom Allbright twenty years old son of John Allbright lost his left arm Saturday morning when caught in gearing of a steam traction engine he was driving along a highway east of Shoals. He died at 3 AM Monday at Daviess county hospital from injuries.
The M. E. church welcomed Rev. Edwin Shake and family back to the parsonage last Thursday night marking his sixth year as pastor. Members led a short program with speeches and a social hour, and a purse of money was given as a sign of their warm regard.
