Great White Band arrangements target a Sunday concert in City Park Odon on October 10. City commercial leaders vow strong help and local support to host the parade and performance, with a 10 cent grounds admission to cover expenses.
Curtis Jones and eight others were riding in a Ford from a Loogootee garage when the car left the road near the ball park and toppled into a ditch. Jones suffered a likely skull fracture and serious scalp injuries. others had bruises and cuts. The group had been at Frank McAtee’s home. Out-of-town guests included Syvilla Garber of Decatur Illinois and several Sraitusb urg Ohio residents.
The ninth annual Snyder family reunion was held in the city park on Saturday. Fifty eight relatives attended and enjoyed games while elders reminisced and a big noon dinner was served as the highlight of the day. The first reunion of the family was hosted years ago in this community.
W A Tomey died in Plainville Ohio nine years ago. Four sisters living now attended the reunion Saturday: Mrs Mary Winkerspleck aged 71 and Mrs Rose Hayes aged 76 both of this place, Mrs Syvilla Garber. Tomey died at 9 45 am of cancer aged 70 a veteran of the Civil War who served eighteen months in an Indiana infantry unit. He leaves a widow Margaret Grove and four of five children Julia Cox and E J Keith of Sikeston Missouri C G Ellis and Austin Tomey of Daviess county. He also leaves a brother Thomas of Martin County and three half brothers Lemuel of Edwardsport Perry of Terre Haute and Geo of Epsom. He was a member of the Plainville lodge of the Odd Fellows. Funeral services were held at the Plainville Methodist church at 2 pm Tuesday with burial in Plainville cemetery.
The Royal Theatre announces Chas. Chaplin in The Rounders for next Saturday night in a program that also features A Mender of Ways, Love and Skates with Peggy Hart, and The Trunk Mystery. Four reels plus an orchestra promise strong entertainment. admission remains 10 cents. Show starts at 7:30.
Dr. E O Chattin reports United States Department of Agriculture orders Indiana to bar cattle sheep and swine from Illinois north of Adams Brown Cass Mason Taswell McLean Ford and Iroquois counties. Michigan also imposes livestock receipt restrictions from Illinois as the disease spreads north in the state.
An order effective September 1, 1915 sets parcel post insurance fees. For values up to $5 the cost is 3 cents, up from 5 cents up to $25. Fees rise to 5 cents for $5 to $25, 10 cents for $25 to $50, and 25 cents for $50 to $100.
David Garey aged seventy one died at his Bloomfield home from age related illness. A longtime Martin county official he served five terms as Martin circuit court clerk one term as surveyor and deputy in the Martin county courthouse. He later worked as Greene county deputy clerk and was a Civil War veteran. Survived by widow Kate Summerville three children Willard Garey Herbert Garey and Mrs. Harry Carroll.
The S I band will give a free concert on the public square next Wednesday at 7 15 PM. A program of interest includes Salutation Seitz Dreaming Joyce and Love's Response. The band is in good condition and invites the town and surrounding community to attend and show appreciation for this city asset.
About thirty friends and neighbors gathered at J D Elkins home one mile and a half east of Elnora to celebrate his fiftieth birthday anniversary. Ice cream and cake were served and the party ended late with wishes for many more happy birthdays.
Mrs. Dearmin wife of W T Dearmin is improving after an operation performed last Thursday at St Vincent's hospital in Indianapolis. Dr Link conducted the surgery.
A card received Monday from F. W. Shaffer and Mrs. Shaffer with John Trueblood says they are touring the west after the exposition. They visited Tijuana, Mexico, and saw many interesting things and plan to return home soon.
Cloverdale Farm announces the new mechanical milker is now installed and ready for demonstration. The farm will offer public showings on all days except Sunday, inviting visitors to see the machine in operation.
The Flint-Kyle Telephone Co. marked its second anniversary under current management with a big dinner for 21 employees at Epsom after rain forced indoor seating. Since taking charge two years ago, phones grew from 46 in Montgomery, 32 in Epsom, 26 in Odon to 230, 110, and 75 respectively, with broader lines and central stations improved.
The White Sox beat Switz City 6 to 5 on Sunday as Sims and Killion pitched for the locals. Switz City managed seven hits while Miller and Pate teamed for the Athletics with ten hits allowed. The Athletics host next Sunday seeking to even the series amid a strong crowd forecast.
A schoolyard mishap left Willis Funcannon with a forehead wound after a ball bat slipped from a boy’s hand. He was rushed to a physician's office for stitches and is recovering, barring complications.
