Tragic Deaths In Auto Train Collision Near Decatur

Mr and Mrs W F Wilking of Decatur Illinois were killed instantly when their car was struck by the Continental Limited at a crossing near Decatur. Their daughter Edna injured as witnesses describe the sudden wreck and rescue efforts. The Wilking family has a history at this crossing including a previous fatality.

Forger Fails Check Tied to Terre Haute Incident

A warrant is out for J B Dine after he forged a check for 12 85 using E W Bennett signature. Dine worked briefly in a local barber shop then fled to Terre Haute where he obtained 3 00 with the fraud. His wife and child are with him in Terre Haute.

A street concert last Wednesday drew a fair crowd that appreciated the program. The program featured eight selections and was well rendered.

Frederick A. Burch and Ruth Marie Smiley were married Sunday evening at seven o'clock in Plainville by Rev. Perry Key. Burch is son of Darius Burch, a Plainville area farmer and Plainville High School graduate. Smiley is daughter of Chas M. Smiley of near Eaglesville. They plan a farm home near Plainville.

Royal Theatre Chaplin Imitation Contest Announces Cash Prize

The Royal Theatre offers a 3.00 cash prize for the best Chaplin impersonator. The contest takes place on Oct 20 with judges from the audience and a special program of pictures. At least two contestants must enter and contestants are urged to study Chaplin’s makeup and actions shown at the Royal each Saturday night.

Richardson granted divorce custody to Myrtle Richardson

Myrtle C Richardson was granted a divorce from Dean Richardson on Saturday. She receives custody of their five year old daughter Thelma and the court orders Dean Richardson to pay six dollars a month for the child's support and education.

Big consolidated concert thrills Spencer crowd

The city band traveled to Spencer last Sunday for a large consolidated concert. Despite poor weather a big turnout enjoyed the parade and performance from the hilltop amphitheater. Plans are under way for a final concert in Odon on October 10 at the Old Settlers ground expected to draw thousands.

Panther Said Seen in Knox County Shocking Farmers

Farmers near Bicknell report sightings of a large panther or jaguar in fields causing fear at night. Representative W A Cullop says he saw the animal near the George McClure farm, leaping across the road then vanishing. Mrs Curlop and a chauffeur corroborate the sighting while locals think it may have escaped from a circus.

Death of Plainville resident John Haynes at 64

John Haynes longtime Plainville Methodist church janitor died Sunday after a lingering cancer illness. He was 64. Survived by his widow, funeral services were held at 10 a m Tuesday at the Plainville Methodist church and burial followed in the adjoining cemetery.

Suit Seeks 3600 Damages Over Ruined Residence

Bicknell Monitor-Raymoard R. Quackenbush filed suit in circuit court against the Bicknell Mining Company and the Bicknell Coal Company. He alleges negligence ruined his residence on White River avenue and rendered it worthless, seeking 3600 dollars in damages.
