The community resumes the new term with strong turnout as the first week sees smooth progress and 167 students enrolled at the high school. Seniors are fewer in number, while the grades show various class counts and planned assignments led by Principal Phevinel Key.
The S.I. Band of this city will play a Saturday night program at the public square. An evening of tuneful music is promised with a full hours entertainment. People are urged to tell friends and visit Odon for shopping and nightlife.
Mrs Daisy Roach of three miles south of the city died last Monday from typhoid fever after about a week of illness. She was a daughter of Raephic Rae and Mrs Harvey Byrer, married to Ernest Roach, leaving a daughter. Funeral services were conducted at Good Hope church with Rev Rothhaver in charge, burial at Weainut Prt Cemetery.
The new race track at the park generates strong interest as coach horses are trained weekly. Last Saturday over a dozen horses raced, drawing an excited crowd while the facility remains in good condition with more work planned to make it a premier venue.
Local notice offers potatoes and apples for winter with several cars of each arriving later in the season. Special prices apply if customers purchase by the car.
J A Sims and Miss Edna Williams of Madison township begin teaching duties on Monday. James Wadsworth and C L Myers delivered two large loads of tomatoes. Grover Jackson injured his hand last Wednesday and will be laid up for days. Mrs Forrest Wadsworth and son Austin visited before returning to Battle Creek Michigan. Meo and Mrs Terrence OMaley and children of East Van Buren visited relatives in Linter Wednesday. Emmett Gray and W H Bechte attended court at the County Seat. Miss Mary Alec Cooper faces appendicitis surgery with family support. Circle Girls of the Christian church held a marshmallow roast at Good Hope Grove Tuesday evening.
Mrs. Nancy Allen a long time Bogard township resident died at home last Tuesday at age 81 after a period of declining health. Born in Regard township she spent her life in the area. She was married to Thomas Allen who died about thirty years ago. Surviving children include Mrs. Alex Brock of Linton and Jos Wilk of Boserd township. Funeral services were held at Concord church with Rev Chas Wilson officiating and burial at the church cemetery.
Miss Vivian Howard of Us city and Malcolm Nolan of Bicknell wed in a ceremony at Usney on April 2. The bride, daughter of Mr and Mrs Raymond Howard, will reside in this city. Mrs Martha Rairden, 64, died suddenly at her daughter’s home in Hinton last Wednesday after nursing a typhoid patient. burial followed at Walnut Hill cemetery near Oden.
The tenth annual Southern Indiana Fox Hunters Association gathering marks a week long event October 17 to 22 on J. E. Root farm near Spencer between Spencer and State Park. Prizes offered for Derby and All Age races and beach shows with Derby events running Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday.
Mr and Mrs R B Dunlap spend week with relatives in Indianapolis. Henry Lutz and Clarence Freeman of French Lick visit. Misses Helen Breden and France Arford leave for Otterbein College in Westerville Ohio. Alpha O Bowman undergoes tonsil removal in Washington. Bowman and Neeremer families travel to Ohio for visits. Mr Bowman to take role as agriculture director for France in October.
Private game preserve owner Harley R. Boyd warns all persons not to hunt or trespass with any weapon or arms on the premises.
Mrs S J Shake of Osgood is spending the week in this city with Mrs E F Shake and their children during a short visit.
