M B Ledgerwood reported a then discovered fire four miles northeast of town on Thursday night. He and his sons quickly extinguished the blaze with kerosene odor and a bottle found nearby. No suspects identified, past poisoning incident noted with cattle deaths years ago.
Miss Mabel Reeve and H A Kline were married Sunday morning by Rev Hayden H Allen at the First Methodist parsonage Waslington. Flora and Whitney Reeve, the bride’s siblings, witnessed the ceremony. A dinner for the couple followed at the bride’s home, then they left for Vincennes where Mr Kline works with the Indians Music company.
Bert Jolliff, longtime jeweler here, left Sunday for Elkhart to join the watch repair department of J. Levin store. He plans to move his family there later, and the local shop will be run by Miss Ethel Joiliff.
Lan Frewnan, proprietor of Freeman Bakery, reports extensive improvements during Ship Week. The interior is repainted and repapered, old shelving removed, and new fixtures installed. Public Library books and case music relate to the same issue.
Mrs. Frank Baker of Barnaity died Saturday night after a brief illness and a sudden headache. Coroner Edward Lundy ruled paralysis as the cause. She was born Samantha Bough February 24, 1858, aged 55 years six months, and leaves her husband and eight children. Funeral service and burial followed at Burns City Cemetery.
Bert Phillips a Stinesville stone cutter wed Loie Vesta Messick sixteen at the Messick residence on Sycamore Street Friday evening. Rev. C H Buchanan performed the ceremony witnessed by several guests the couple plan to live in Steesville.
The hottest Labor Day on record was quietly observed here with the bank closed and post office hours altered. Most businesses stayed open while few locals attended celebrations in other towns due to the extreme heat.
J A Stargil will relocate his Worthington stock to Odon next week occupying the O Dell building on Main Street being fitted with new shelving and fixtures. He has a large stock and will be assisted in the store by his son.
A Lyons driver Ed Slinkard in a large seven passenger auto collided with a two seated survey driven by Acom Lamb near Mud Pike Sunday evening. A suckling colt tied to its mother was struck, breaking the colt's right hind leg. veterinarian Dr. S E Bowman treated the fracture and the colt was killed Monday.
Onie Daugherty a twenty three year old Plainville woman attempted suicide by carbolic acid from Freshley drug store. She swallowed about half an ounce before bystanders stopped her and doctors treated her. She is rapidly recovering though throat and stomach burns may cause life long trouble. She has not stated a motive.
The Washington U S Grant post of the Grand Army of the Republic organizes a large dedication parade for the Daviess county soldiers monument on Wednesday October 8. All county orders schools and societies are urged to join in what may be the last wide county tribute to old soldiers.

Aaron Hitchcock long known in Elnora died Monday after illness. Born in Ohio November 6 1828 he moved to Elnora years ago and lived a quiet life near his home. He leaves a widow and eight children including George Mack Harry Wiley Hitchock and others. Funeral Wednesday at ten AM at the Methodist church with burial in Fairview cemetery.
Raglesville reports Miss Genevieve Flinn visiting at Terre Haute where a daughter was born to Mrs Ben Myers on Wednesday. Rev W W Todd moved his family to Coal City on Friday. Several locals attended gatherings and visits occurred among Miss Susie Glover Miss Pansy Dyal Miss Eula Ragte and Mrs George Stoy. Ray Myers is gravely ill with typhoid. brother Roy shows signs of improvement.
An 84 year old Bogard township farmer Joe O'Brien was shot to death Tuesday at 4 30 am on his Bogard township farm where he had lived for many years The survivor list includes four sons Bons Christopher and Joseph O'Brien in Bogard township Alfred and Francis O'Brien and one daughter residing in Pike county
