An evening convention at the Royal Theater nominated candidates for town officers to be elected in November. Dr. DeMotte chaired the first meeting with Jno. B. Stotts as chairman and H. H. Crooke as secretary.

Floyd Turney dies at 22 after yearlong illness

Floyd Turney oldest son of Rev. and Mrs. H. A. Turney died at their Indianapolis home Sunday after more than a year of heart leakage. The Turney family lived in Odon four years while Rev. Turney led the local Christian church. He is survived by his parents one brother Frank and three sisters Mrs Chas Daw son Kathryn and Josephine. Funeral services were held Tuesday and burial in Indianapolis.

Odon town to host Chautauqua in 1916

Citizens of Odon met last Tuesday night to contract a community Chautauqua for next fall. Mr Shouse of the company attended and about 40 names were quickly secured to guarantee the event. Dates are to be announced. a five day program is planned with the Chautauqua as a main attraction for 1916.

Physicians Organize to Enforce Medical Fees

Local doctors met at Washington with physicians from nearby towns to form a fee collection organization. The plan aims to deny services to non paying patients until payment is made and prohibits them from calling another doctor after being reported. Discussion followed earlier talks at the State Medical Association in Indianapolis and several counties have organized since.

The Odon band expresses gratitude to the commercial club for efforts that made a recent concert a success and to loyal members for their support during the season. They urge every man to attend Friday rehearsal October 22 at 7:39 to 9:00 PM to prepare for winter.

Swallows Arrested Over Note Forgery Case

Bert Swallows was arrested in Minnett Montana by order of the Daviess circuit court and returned home Sunday with Capitan Emanuel Gates of the Washington police. The suit by Dr F L Freshley charged recovery on a note but the court ruled against the plaintiff after John Swallows testified his signature was forged. Swallows had disappeared from his Epsom area home last May amid reports of other similar notes.

Devil's Eye Draws Packed Crowd At Royal Theater

The Royal theater filled to capacity last Saturday to view The Devil's Eye, noted as one of the best features in the city. Chaplin’s Mabel's Strange Predicament elicited laughter and left standing-room only for the first show. Next Saturday promises The Million Dollar Robbery in four reels and a new Chaplin short Those Love Pangs, forming a five reel program with continuous action. Tickets 10 cents, shows start 7 30 with doors open 7 15 and orchestra accompaniment throughout.

An appeal urging examination of children’s eyes by a competent optometrist. It stresses the importance of vision care and offers to help families unable to afford glasses, with KEGK the jeweler and optometrist coordinating the effort.

Room reports list many students across rooms 1 2 38 4 5 and High school Mount Bair with Room 1 showing best attendance this month Room 2 and 5 tie for second Room 4 leads in punctuality and the note mentions a need for play apparatus on the school ground for children

Poultry Show Planned by Local Breeders

At a recent meeting local breeders unanimously agreed to host a poultry show this winter with date set at the next regular gathering. C A Breden was elected president J B Stotts secretary and J A Burrell treasurer. Next meeting at the Journal office will decide the show date and appoint committees. Oden has had two successful shows and enthusiasm is high as the poultry crop is heavy. The region’s poultry cash flow is likely the largest among local products and deserves more focus.

Lamb Beasley wed in Burns City nuptials

Joseph Lamb of Burns City and Miss Mary Delphia Beasley of Van Buren township were married Sunday afternoon at the bride’s parents home. Rev. A C Trusty officiated in front of friends and relatives. Lamb is a young Martin County farmer and Beasley’s daughter is a farmer’s daughter. They will reside near Burns City.

Miss Bessie Payne Weds Mr Samuel Christ at Home

Miss Bessie Payne daughter of Mr and Mrs T J Payne of Elnora married Samuel Christ of Brazil Sunday afternoon at three in her parents home. Rev H C Shaw officiated in presence of relatives. Mr Christ works for a coal company at Brazil and they will reside there. The bride is well known to Odon youths.

Plainville High Shoots Past Local Team In buzzy clash

Plainville high school defeated the local high school 13 to 7 in a Saturday afternoon game. The visitors brought strong support with two wagon loads and several autos, turning Odon into a noisy town as both sides battled through errors until the final inning.
