Mrs Rosanna Hayes a highly respected city resident died at her daughter Mrs Homer Wardlas home after a complication of diseases. Known as Grandma Hayes she was beloved for her Christian character kindness and steadfast faith, leaving a lasting imprint on the community.
Rosanna Dorothy Snyder Hayes born January 30 1841 in Tuscarawas County Ohio died aged 78 in Indiana after moving from Ohio in 1865. Widowed since 1860 with ten children eight surviving, she devoted life to church activities and community service, notably as an Endeavor member in the United Brethren church.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hayes visit in town from French Lick. Mrs. John Resler from Akron Colorado arrives for a family visit with Emanuel Humerickhouse. Edna Schatz of Wheaton Illinois visits Daniel Gantz family. Apples for sale by J A Overton. Cider sales and barrels offered by W R Neeriemer starting August 14 1919 with weekly Thursday making.
Elmer Bechtel and Nora Martin, two well known young people of Elmore township, united in marriage last Friday at 2:00 p m at the home of Rev C H Buchanan. The bride, daughter of Dr Simeon Martin, and the groom, son of Frank Bechtel, will reside on a farm in Elmore. He served overseas in the war and spent over a month in the eastern trenches. The couple have the community's best wishes.
Mrs. R T Burrell, born 1863 in Bloomfield, died last Thursday at St Vincent's Hospital. Wife of Richard Burrell, she had five children, eight grandchildren, and survived by a sister and half brother. She belonged to Cumberland Presbyterian and later Broadway M E Church in Indianapolis. Funeral was held in Bloomfield with Rev Owen Pratt officiating. burial at Grandview Cemetery.
Jacob Longcor and Mrs. Carrie Flinn were united in marriage last Saturday at Washington. Longcor resides in Lewis and the couple plan to make that city their future home.
The Hayes family thanks friends for the beautiful flowers and kindness shown during the illness and death of our mother Mrs. D Hayes. The Children.
Obituary mentions Mrs. Dollie Ward of Michigan and Chas M of Terre Haute along with Mrs. Ola Ward of this city. She leaves 33 grandchildren 7 great grandchildren and 3 sisters. Service held at U B Church Sunday afternoon with Rev. Ernest Roberts in charge. Burial at Walnut Hill.
Mrs. Malintha Barley aged 58? No, born October 9 1825 died last Thursday at her home southwest of the city after a long life of faith and service. She leaves 57 grandchildren and 48 great grandchildren along with children Martha Carter Geo W McBride Lottie Scott Jane Bundy and five others. Funeral services were conducted by Rev C H Buchanan at Concord with burial there.
Rally Day will be observed at the First Christian Church with a morning program, basket dinner, and all day meeting. The event features readings, solos, a duet, a brief address by Rev C H Buchanan, and special music. An afternoon sermon by Rev Darby of Washington is planned with transport offered for those unable to attend.
The Odon Band performs during a Woodmen Logrolling event in Elnora this week. A large number of Odon residents plan to attend.
The famed American reader Miss Hettie Jane Dunaway returns to Odon en route to the south for winter. She will present The Lady of The Decoration with new costumes and musical accompaniment at the U B Church next Wednesday night October 15 as the first show in a high class winter series.
Rally Day at the U B church was postponed due to explained reasons. The program will be presented Sunday October 12 in place of the original date. Attendees are urged to be present for what is described as a good program.
We extend heartfelt thanks to all who assisted during our bereavement for our mother and grandmother Cynthia Maryfield. Children and grandchildren.
The Pleasant Hill circuit gathered at Mud Pike church on Tuesday to honor their new pastor Rev. McMurtry on his birthday anniversary. Members brought gifts, including about 30 chickens, apples, flour, lard, and canned fruit. After brief class addresses, the group shared ice cream and cake on the church lawn and wished him many happy returns.
The Boy Scouts of Troop No. 1 announce plans to plant a Roosevelt Memorial Park on the Old Settlers grounds South side. The project includes peccans chestnuts black walnuts and a variety grove funded by donations. Donors contribute 1.50 to 5.00 per tree with an estimated cost around 100. Contributions due by November 1st.
On October 4th Herschel Byrer and Lois Groves were married at her home by A. M. Williams. The bride, daughter of the late Luther Groves, is praised as an estimable young lady. The groom, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Byrer of Van Buren Township, is described as an enterprising farmer. They will reside on a Van Buren Township farm.
Saturday afternoon in Raglesville saw Mr and Mrs Curt Riggins visiting near Center church while Mr and Mrs T G Wadsworth joined Mrs Mary C Wadsworth family nearby. J W Critchlow visited his sister Mrs Judah Stuffle near Scotland on Saturday night. Fine Sunday showers followed by several local visits including Mr and Mrs Starlin Woodruff and son John of Barr township to Terrence O Maley’s. DV Cavaness and Dyal Wadsworth traveled to Loogootee on business. Mrs Jane Riley attended Rosanna Hayes burial.
