Mrs Francis Chestnut Dies at Home in Local Area

Mrs. Francis Chestnut died last Wednesday at her home southwest of the city from anaemia after long illness. Survived by three children, two sisters, one brother, and the husband Lafe Chestnut who preceded her in death. Aged over 46, she was a Methodist. Funeral from the residence at 10:00 this morning, Rev. Ernest Roberts officiating. Burial at Walnut Hill.

Child Dies of Cholera Infantum in City Area

Harold, 18 months old and son of Mr and Mrs Ferschel Byrer, died at home southwest of the city Wednesday night from cholera infantum. He was ill briefly. Funeral services were conducted at the residence by Rev. Ernest Roberts with burial at Walnut Hill.

Mrs H J Kutch and son Donald of St Bernice spent the start of the week with her parents Mr and Mrs George Harmon. Mrs Pleasie Jolliff has returned from a visit with relatives in Oxford Ohio and Connersville Ind. Cider on after Aug 14 1919 will be made Thursdays weekly with 25 gallon and over at 4 cents per gallon minimum $1.00 and barrels for sale. W R Neeremer Luther Shoemaker sixty, a farmer near Blankenship, is jailed after confessing to burning buildings on the Joseph Watson farm. Bloodhounds traced to Shoemaker. he was bound over to circuit court. Shoemaker says he burned the buildings because Watson mistreated him.

Fifth Annual Daviess County Sunday School Convention

California Trip Diary From Riverside August 1919

A traveler writes from Riverside on September 15 1919 detailing a journey from Odon through Indiana Illinois Missouri Kansas Oklahoma and into Colorado and New Mexico toward California. The letter narrates road conditions camping spots ferry tolls river crossings and weather including a rainstorm near Dodge City and a dust storm near Trinidad and a high pass through Raton Pass. The correspondent notes encounters with other travelers and a press of auto club information along the way.
