Crete Billego Woman Dies After Childbirth in Bloomington

Mrs Crete Williams Billeg died at her Bloomington home on Sunday morning at 9 10. She was 21 and had just given birth to a child who died shortly after. She leaves her husband and her parents Mr and Mrs Warr Williams and seven sisters. Funeral services were held at the Bloomington residence and burial followed there.

Auto Crash Delays Trip Near Plainville

Friday night Geo Henderson returning from Washington after Ben Hur initiation found a broken axle forcing a stop in a waterlogged stretch between Plainville and the Ed Beau farm. The water was nearly a foot deep as Walter Garon assisted. They pushed the car to safety and returned home in the Garten vehicle. Fonderson’s car from Overland was brought in on Monday.

White River Flood Worries Farmers as Rains Continue

Heavy rains push White River higher with nine inch rise reported Monday night and about one inch hourly on Tuesday. Farmers fear wheat seeding delays and crop losses in low lands while Lars valley west of town floods from backwater as the river then begins to recede.

Health Officers Inspect Odom and Elnora. Violations Noted

County health commissioner Dir A L Donallson and state pure food official John Owen visited Odom and Elnora after an inspection trip. They found numerous health law violations and issued condemnation notices calling for immediate repairs or risk of prosecution. Penalties include fines up to fifty dollars with daily charges for noncompliance and appeals within five days.

Victims of Tuberculosis Reported in August

State Board of Health statistics show tuberculosis caused deaths about every two hours in Tudiana during August. Most victims were adults and many were women. 57 children became orphans as 69 women died. Director J. O. Harty notes daily orphan toll.

Death of Blanche Wirts Seamstress in Washington

Blanche Wirts, a Washington seamstress, died after an eight week illness from heart trouble and related diseases. Born May 4, she was the daughter of William and Mary Wirts, lived much of her life in Jackson Township before moving to Washington, and was a longtime member of the United Brethren church. She is survived by parents and siblings Mrs. Henry Bellins, Mrs. Harry Fitts of Washington, and several others.

Opening of High School and Community Support

School opened September 4 with a ved show and a large attendance mirroring last year. Parents urged timely arrival for morning bells and citizens were asked to fund a 100 mark for road improvements to aid school access. New equipment included compound microscopes two Tollesian dictionaries and updated recitation rooms.

The game at Loogootre saw Oden and Bramble defeat Dro 4 to 0. Cooper and Kinnamen led the Oden Bramble squad with Minty and Martin providing supporting guard play.

Reception Honors Pastor and Wife at Odon Church

Thursday evening September 2, about sixty members of de Walle Brethren church of Ogdon attended a reception for their pastor Ree Le Tane Schoonover and his wife. A beautiful program of music scripture reading and prayers preceded comments by Rev. D. P. McCoy. The couple joined the local church and the outlook for the Odon charge is encouraging.

Hutchins to Retire From Ministry

The Rev. E. L. Hutchins of the West Terre Haute Methodist Church will retire from the ministry for an indefinite period due to ill health. His pastoral duties will be submitted for at least three years. Hutchins was formerly pastor of the Elnora Methodist Church.

Train Cutting Affray Leaves Several Injured at Midland

Reports say a violent clash occurred on a Southern Indiana rail line near Midland when two brothers Norris and Greenhany allegedly attacked others during a crowded train ride. Six to seven passengers were hurt with some needing medical care at a stop near Midland. The two brothers fled but were not yet arrested as authorities pursued charges.

Bloomfield Postmaster J W Graham Dies in Office

Postmaster J W Graham of Biccon died after a collapse while on duty at his residence. He had served as Hillsind deputy state insriner for three years and earlier was clerk of the Green County court, with terms in public service noted. A memorial service was held with local officials and attendees.

Admiral Schley Dies After Illness in New York

Rear Admiral Winfield Scott Schley, a veteran of the Spanish-American War, died Monday in New York. He commanded the fleet at Santiago which hunted the Spanish squadron and played a key role in ending the war.

Davidson Case Settled in Local Court Friday Morning

The case involving Clark Davidson and associated libel actions against churchmen from Piqua Ohio and two against Rev Myr Davidson was settled in the county court after years of litigation. Mrs Davidson received votes in her favor for the restoration of her maiden name and did not pursue alimony. The matter had dragged through state and federal courts since 1900, with Rev Ab Davidson active in revival work in a western town.
