A 49 year old stone cutter named Jack Brown employed at the Correll C Orrell plant forged a $1500 check drawn on Correll & Barrell and passed it at Pershing & Matthews. The suspect disappeared Saturday night, with others hints pointing to New York or a nearby town. Suspicions led to the shopkeepers who accepted the note, while investigators seek Brown who fled on the midnight freight.
Thomas Armes narrowly escaped serious injury after a late night knife fight with a black man described as between 12 and 1 o clock Sunday morning. The clash followed a lively crap game that ended around midnight Saturday. Armes missed his overcoat, returned, and words led to the stabbing through coats. the attire may have saved his life. Urobles, employed by W. R. Gardener, faces trial today with his attorney retained.
A reception for Reverend F W Davis was held at the M E church Tuesday evening with about 150 members and friends in attendance. The program included music readings and talks, followed by a pleasant social hour.
Mr and Mrs Ed Stotts of Indianapolis arrive for a brief visit and soon depart for Jacksonville Florida where he will serve as demonstrator for the Premier automobile with Miller Auto Co He is noted as an auto expert previously with Premier in Indianapolis The Stotts are natives of Odon and have many friends in town wish them success in their new position. 1162t Roland Arford.
Announcements are out for the marriage of Miss Carrie Cooper to J Ralph Gantz both of this city. Miss Cooper is the youngest daughter of Lowry Cooper automobile dealer here and a prominent business figure. Mr Gantz, junior partner in Gantz Son drug firm and secretary of the commercial club. The ceremony will be at the home of Mr and Mrs Lowry Cooper on Wednesday October 15.
Sidney W. Conger of Shelbyville dies at a sanitarium after a throat cancer battle. He was 61, survived by a widow and three children. A noted poultry judge, he served on Indiana’s board of agriculture since 1900, led the Sons of Veterans in 1900 01, and held oil inspector post from 1903 until retirement in 1911. He supported Harrison and Warrson and helped run campaigns for four Republican governors.
