Mrs S R Callahan Dies After Long Illness

Mrs S R Callahan of this city died at her North Spring Street home Tuesday at 2 39 pm after fourteen years of illness. Born February 6 1853 in Tuscarawas County Ohio she was sixty two. She married Samuel R Callahan August 24 171 and had nine children eight living. Funeral at M E Church at 9 30 am with Rev L B Johnson and Rev A C Crusty. Burial Walnut Hill Cemetery.

Tramps Arrested After Home Invasion in Washington

Four tramps broke into the home of Charles Melton in Washington Monday night. Mrs Melton and children fled as the intruders demanded food. one grabbed a sleeve of a nightgown as a 12 year old girl ran. An officer captured two. another two were found at an overhead bridge. All four were jailed and arraigned. Three pleaded guilty to public drunkenness with minimal fines. Howard Jackson was convicted of assault and battery and fined five dollars plus costs.

Odon Chamber of Commerce Holds Regular Meeting

The Odon Chamber of Commerce met at Poindexter and Wilson on Tuesday night. A mailing list project was reviewed and continued. New town hall and public meeting ideas were discussed and a committee was appointed to study the plan. Several claims were allowed. Meeting adjourned about nine.

Odon High to Host Basketball Nights at K of P Hall

Odon High School Association rents K of P hall for basketball practice twice weekly with every other Friday game against a visiting school. First game Friday Nov 19 at 7 30. Nov 12 Odon beat Montgomery 16 8 with second half rally. Fred Williams elected school reporter to relay future game details. Girls’ plans noted.

Quail Scarcity Amid Rabbit Abundance Reported

Local hunters report quail numbers are low this season while rabbits are plentiful. The public appears more interested in pursuing white tailed rabbits than the scarce quail in the area.

Epworth League Social Draws 75 To West Main Event

A social for Epworth League members was held at the K P Building on West Main Street last Tuesday evening with about 75 in attendance. Daniel Gantz, Mrs. Martha Myers, Mrs. Almira Trowbridge and Wm Bair gave readings followed by a minstrel show and a violin solo by Miss Buckingham. Several contests preceded refreshments including sandwiches coffee ice cream Waldorf salad olives and cake. An instrumental orchestra provided music for the occasion.

Carl Kendall Suffering First Hunting Injury

Seventeen year old Earl Kendall of Washington wounded while hunting on his grandfather George Wasoner’s farm in Washington township. A younger brother’s back turned as he tried to scare a rabbit. the double barreled shotgun discharged injuring his arm badly. He was taken to the county hospital with possible amputation risks but resting easier Sunday night. This marked the first hunting accident in Daviess County this season.

Ernest P. Brady buys John Lyons property on Race Street and John Lyons buys the former Kettery property from Chas Kettery in East Odon. Odon Realty Company arranged the deals. Both parties moved into their new homes Monday.

Art Dval of Van Buren township underwent surgery last week at Washington hospital for appendicitis and is reported to be recovering well and likely to return home soon.

Royal Theatre Sees Rising Movie Attendance In Town

Central state statistics show growing interest in motion pictures with weekly attendance up. The Royal Theatre reports increasing patronage and praises The Star of India as a top feature. Tomorrow’s bill includes Herbert Blache’s The Queen of the Skull Clan a four act tragedy with Chaplin in His New Profession and special orchestra. Show starts 7 30 with tickets at 7 15.

Death of Ham Long Noted Washington Township Farmer

Ham Long a leading Washington township farmer died Monday morning of pleurisy at his home on the John Batchelor farm along the Maysville South Washington road. His death followed a period of critical illness and he served on the township advisory board which now must be filled.

D. E. Williams a Lovss boys class teacher at Christia Sunday School led nineteen boys on a Tuesday night opossum hunt. The group reported a fine time and returned with a single opossum skin.
