City election yields big turnout and Civic ticket wins

The town held its most interesting election in years with two parties competing Citizen and People's. Citizens ticket swept all four posts including Elmer Sears Wm Bunch C A Breden and Wm Summerville. Vote tallies show Breden 124 Sears 112 Summerville 118 Bunch 109 O'Dell 101 Collins 104 Crooke 96 Marshall 90. mutilation or error minimal.

Ten years since Hallowe'en bank robbery attempt in Od on

Reminiscence recalls a near miss ten years ago when Adon faced an attempted bank robbery. The safe was damaged though time ran out, a farmer J B Shields helped, and the thieves fled but were later captured and jailed. Od on has had few notable burglaries since.

Much Cider Made This Season

The heavy apple crop has boosted cider making with many farmers processing their fruit into cider, vinegar, or apple butter. Qodon’s plant handles high volumes as wagons wait in line, and autos have become a common haul method. Cider butter production is high this year, reflecting a robust season.

Suit Seeks Mandamus Over County Attendance Officer Post

Julius Smith county truant officer sues county superintendent A O Fulkerson to force recognition of Smith as legally elected attendance officer and to compel certification of his pay claims. He alleges election May 1 1915 and seeks $28 for 14 days work plus a second claim for 44. Fulkerson cites law requiring eighth grade education. Smith’s allies say his education suffices. Smith is a local contractor and fruit grower living south of the city.

Quiet Halloween in City Brings Little Disturbance

Halloween was celebrated in a quiet manner with a large masked crowd roaming streets Saturday night. Marshall Summerville patrolled central areas through the night as a few out buildings were overturned in outskirts but no major damage occurred.

Bruceville's Oliphant-Wasson team led by captain Ed Livingston captured first prize at the Indiana state first aid meet in Bicknell. The victory marks the first state coal mining first aid championship with 20 teams participating and medals awarded by Red Cross, W National Safety Council, and local organizers.

Miss Delphia Vest Wins Cincinnati Conservatory Honor

Miss Delphia Vest of this city won the top honors at a Cincinnati Conservatory of Music contest. She entered only the last contest yet won a two year scholarship including board and rooms. Vest is the daughter of Andrew J. Vest and a graduate of the Indianapolis Conservatory of Music.

Infant Halman Beasley Dies at Two Weeks Old

The infant son of Mr and Mrs Harley Beasley of the northeast area died last Thursday aged two weeks and four days. Funeral services were held Friday at the M E Church in Eaglesville with Rev Huddleson officiating. Interment followed in the Eaglesville cemetery.

Infant Buried. locals note family losses

The infant child of Mr. and Mrs. Harley Beasley was buried here Friday. The little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Chestnut was buried here Sunday. There was no school here Thursday and Friday due to the State Teachers Association. Born to Mrs. Sam Riggins on Monday, Nov. 1, a son.

The Library Board met in regular session at the public library last Monday night. Committees reported and month end business was taken up. Mrs. A. C. Mr and Mrs D J Core of the countryside celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Tuesday November 2.
