Elnora Woman Dies After Cancer Operation

Mrs. Robert Anderson of Elnora Ind died Friday morning after cancer of the bone and amputation. She endured years of illness with Christian fortitude leaving a husband two children and various relatives. Funeral services were in the M E Church and the body was taken to Marco for burial.

Tickets for Odon Chautauqua Announced with Star Acts

Tickets for the coming chautauqua arrived this week with promotional material. The program begins July 23 and runs a week of notable performances including Meister Singers Male Quartette and organ chimes. Dr E L Williams of Grace Methodist Church Chicago lectures on The City and the Soil. New York Marine Band with conductor Vincent Lo Zito performs a grand concert.

Memorial Day Observance Planned by Grand Army of the Republic

Memorial Day activities include a May 28 gathering at 10:00 a.m. at the G A R hall, a march to the U B Church for a memorial sermon by Ernest Roberts, and church invitations. May 30 schedules a 9:30 a.m. meeting, a cemetery decoration at Walnut Hill, and a 1:30 p.m. parade headed by S L Band with Sunday schools and societies in line.

Alfordsville Man Dies By Hanging In Home

Mack Gootee aged about fifty five a well known citizen of Alfordsville ended his life by hanging in his home Thursday He was mentally unbalanced according to acquaintances and relatives Gootee was last seen shortly after dinner Thursday His absence was noted Friday morning and S S Wininger and George Allen found him in the doorway his body suspended from a rope about 10 o clock The body showed signs of having been dead for some time before discovery

Methodist Unity Moves Forward at Saratoga Conference

The general conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church at Saratoga Springs voted against abolishing missionary Episcopacy and endorsed plans for potential church unification in the north and south. It approved delaying a Singapore missionary bishop election and left open a 1918 or 1920 path to a united church, with bishops Craston Hamilton and Hartzell set to retire.

Pearl of White River Shines at Washington Showing

One of the finest freshwater pearls ever taken from White river was shown to several Washington men on Tuesday. P W Connell, a russel digger and pearl fisherman near the Straight Line ferry, held the pearl. It is nearly perfect, marble sized, weighing thirty five grains and valued at 600 dollars. It is brilliant and perfectly round with a small blister that does not affect its value.

Amanda Petty of Plainville is held in Muncie jail on insanity charges. A telegram from Charles F. Bowden, Muncie court clerk, informed relatives and Mrs Petty’s husband left Plainville for Muncie after notification.

Pioneer Society to Mark Centennial in Odon Indiana

The Pioneer Society of Indiana will hold its centennial celebration on August 1 at Old Settlers Grove in Odon. The board selected the site after a search and will arrange speakers bands and attractions. The event aims to foster Hoosier friendship and is free to the public. Odon’s park offers ample space and abundant water for large gatherings.
