Flint-Cooper Wedding Unites Ethel Cooper and Trumas Flint

Miss Ethel Cooper and Trumas Flint were united in marriage Sunday at the bride’s home on North Spring Street with Rev. Ernest Roberts officiating. The bride is the daughter of Leamon Cooper and well known socially. The groom is J C Flint’s son and active in the Flint Poultry Company. After the ceremony guests served ice cream and angel food cake. The couple left at 5 42 for a short honeymoon in Rockford Illinois and Bloomington before returning.

William L. Slinkard of Bloomfield, known as publisher of The Democrat and an attorney, visited the area urging Democratic support for President Wilson and a Democratic congressman. Belgian Sergeant Lectures on War At Local Visit

Sergeant Van Cauvenberegh, a Belgian from the western front, spoke in the city Sunday en route to Sandborn. He displayed battle memorabilia, explained gas effects and shell mechanisms, and demonstrated gas masks. He returns next Sunday for a Red Cross benefit lecture at the Christian church with a door charge of 10 cents and a musical program.

Harmon Writes From England Aboard Allied Transport

Wilmer Harmon reports from England that he landed in Liverpool, traveled onward to Devonport where he is stationed. He recalls an eight and a half day voyage across the Atlantic with a band on board and encounters with submarines. A torpedo nearly hit the ship but was evaded as crew fired and depth charges sank a submarine.
