Walter C. Garten Jonas Winkelpleck and Lowery Cooper met in Washington to arrange a settlement of ex Trustee Hiram Sims affairs in Van Buren township. The parties consider settling without suit. Two bondsmen liable are named and A. Al Dane and O. M. Vance and Rizza Mattingly all from Washington, the latter two serving on Sims bond duties in his final year in office.
John D. Herndon aged 57, a prominent carpenter of Cornettsville, died Wednesday afternoon likely due to bladder trouble after weeks of illness. He survived by wife Matilda Baker, married in 1880, and two children one living. His brother H. T. Herndon operates the Odon Hotel. Sam Herndon of Terri Haute is among his kin.
