The United States Department of Agriculture reports a significant drop in gipsy moths and crown-tail moths this year due to combined spray programs, beneficial parasites, and public outreach. The report notes continued progress against boll weevil damage, new arsenical sprays in trials, and measures to curb red spiders in cotton fields.
The Bureau of Animal Industry advises treating clover hay for laying hens by cutting it into short lengths, placing in a bucket, pouring boiling water over it, and letting it stand overnight or for several hours. Drain, then mix with mash, using hay to make about half the mixture. Clover hay is best, but any kind has value.
