Death of Mrs C H Bean Elmore township resident

Mrs C H Bean died at her son F W Beans home in Elmora after a long life in the community born Corydon Indiana November 7. She was past seventy eight and married C H Bean in 1863 who died recently. Nine children survive and funeral services were held at 2000 Wednesday with Rev McMurtry presiding. Burial followed at Walnut Hill.

Plainville Student Joins Indiana University Tour Team

Rankin Denny of Plainville, a medical student at Indiana University, is selected as one of thirteen athletes to tour Japan with the university baseball squad. The Daviess County youth joins catcher Delly and infielder Walgioy on the globe trotting team, with John Keifer stepping aside as the regular catcher last season.

Death of Isaac Clark in Terre Haute

Isaac Clark former resident dies at his Terre Haute home on Monday at age sixty eight His funeral was held in Terre Haute and the body shipped to Plainville for burial in Plainville cemetery He leaves brothers Andrew Clark of Steele and Dennis Chirk of Washington township and nephew Alex Clark of Bogard plus another relative.

Clean up drive for Odon prompts springtime pride

Time to clean up Odon as winter rubbish clears and spring growth begins. Town should repair alleys and streets and move hogs and filth stock to outskirts now that the war era laxities are past. A visitor warned the town of sour alleys, urging a neat, well kept look to attract residents and industry alike.

Brown township school closures and local notices

Brown township closes its schools while Dr McPiersop of Bedford completed a professional call locally last week. Mrs Sallie Ketchem returns to Odon Friday after visiting her granddaughter Al geron and Bonnie Lee Russell Simms of Eaglesville moves to Burke Ketcham farm for the year. Preparation for the second fruit tree sprayings underway and Miss Fern Lankford stays in Shoals with Mrs Van Edington. Eight year graduation exams were held Saturday with Adour 30 taking tests. Carrol Osborn visits Shoals for the weekend. Rev Robinson starts a new series at Calvary Church Monday and Ray Crane of Eaglesville travels home from Huron Friday night.

Mrs Jane Girdley Dies After Long Life of Local Ties

Mrs Jane Girdley died Friday March 17 at her son Bradford Girdley’s home two miles east of here after a cancer illness. She was a sister of the late Thomas Sarlent and leaves two sons Lafayette and Bradford with both husband and daughter deceased. She was buried at Salem after services and was a Baptist church member with many mourners.

Aged farmer Richard Dye dies after long life

Richard Dye, an aged farmer living five miles south of town, died Sunday. He was twice married. Survived by his second wife Candas Woodruff and four children Moses Live of this city, Mrs Mary Smith, and Mrs Oma Smith, plus three children from his first marriage and several grandchildren.

Russell Sims family moved to Burke Ketcham farm while Wayne Chestnut and Ishmael Boshear swapped homes southeast of here. Dennis Riggins and wife moved to Harley Beasley’s in Martin county. Prairie Creek flooded twice last week and this week, resembling a river. Mrs A W Stuckey visited Mrs MO Pace. Mrs W Burris spent the day with the Loudermilk family. Leroy Wadsworth visited Odon. William Doyle from south Van Buren attended institute and dined with G Wadsworth. Checkers interest grows as Homer Riggins issues a challenge.
