Elderly Woman Dies After Devouring Flames Fire Fatality At Elnora Home

Mrs. Seneff, about eighty, died after her clothing ignited while smoking at her home on the Odon road near Elnora. Husband William Seneff tried to smother the flames with a tablecloth and water but she succumbed Wednesday morning. Survived by her husband and seven children from two prior marriages. funeral held at Friendship with Rev. Shaw.

Cocal Gun Club Holds All Day Shoot At Grounds

The Cocal Gun Club hosted a full day shoot with entrants from across the country. In the regular match Parr of Indianapolis and O. B. Laughlin and E. T. Laughlin of Odon topped scores, while the Jack Rabbit Shoot saw E. T. Laughlin lead Orion with 41 and Sims of Odon close behind. Next match date pending.

Graduation Examinations Held Across County Townships

Last Saturday county common school students took the first graduation examination. Those passing may join spring union commencement in the county seat. Examinations were held at various township sites starting at 8 30, with Manuscripts supplied free. At this place Trustee McCallian led seventeen examinees.

Embroidery Club Gathering at Gantz Home

Miss Orpha Cole entertained about twenty five friends and embroidery club members at the home of Myra D Gantz on South Spring Street Tuesday evening. The evening featured music and fancy work followed by a delightful two course ranch.

Andrew McCall Dead A Bogard Township Farmer

Andrew McCall died suddenly from heart failure Tuesday morning while supervising hog loading at his home in Bogard township. He was 74, born nearby, married to Mary Peschee, with son Austin surviving. He was active in public affairs, a Democrat, and a member of the Ualled Brethren church. funeral Thursday at 2 p.m. at the residence with Rev. W Todd leading. burial followed.

Veterans to Gettysburg 50th Anniversary Trip for Indiana Survivors

Indiana will send Civil War veterans from Daviess County and across the state to the 50th anniversary Gettysburg celebration July 2 to 3. The legislature approved funds for railroad fares and incidentals, with Governor Ralston signing the bill. Survivors report to the adjutant general,. only a handful from Daviess County are eligible, including Nelson Purcell Camback John Williams John Chapman W F Ellis and Wash Akcester. Sap Weaver of Wheatland is also eligible.

Samuel O Neal Dead Farmer and Local Leader

Samuel O Neal died at his Newberry home from carcinoma of the lower maxillary after months of illness. He never married and was a prominent community figure with several public offices. Survived by a sister Sophia. Funeral held at the Lutheran church in Newberry with Rev C E Hamerick officiating. Burial followed in Newberry cemetery.

Purdue Wrestler Bowman Wins 145 Lb Title

Victor V. Bowman son of Wm Bowman from Odon won the 145 pound class at the Purdue University wrestling tournament held in the campus gym March 18. He defeated W B Wells in three minutes and 26 seconds by three half nelsons, earning a silver loving cup from the Athletic Association.

Venus in Daylight Brightest Planet Visible at Dawn

The planet Venus becomes the most brilliant object in the sky and may be seen in daylight around March 18. It rises in the east near nine o clock and sets in the west at about the same hour, shining about 865 times brighter than the North Star.

Bechtel Weds Hannah Ledgerwool In Madison County

A D Bechtel, prominent Madison township farmer, married Mrs Hannah Ledgerwool of Martin county last Thursday. The couple obtained a license in Shoals and wed at the courthouse. They will reside at Bechtels home four miles east of there.

Light Plant Poles Being Placed At Odon

Poles for Odon's new light plant are being installed and completion work continues this week. The cedar poles come from Michigan and finishing touches are underway.

Dog Fund Distributed Across County Townships

The county dog fund will distribute 31,500 this year, up from 1,365.10 last year by 135.24. W. T. Brown, deputy in the county auditor's office, finalized apportionment to townships and corporations. Individual allocations include Barr 159.26, Bogard 0.30, Elmore 874.07, Harrison 718.87, Madison 73.30, Reeve 2838.97, Steele 205.20, Veale 450.81, Van Buren 360.14, Washington 181.93, Ennora 46.31, Qdon 61.14, Washington 2403.01. Warrants are written and funds available for town treasurers and township trustees.

Social event at the Merrith home as Mo D C ladies hosted husbands and guests for an St Patrick s day party. Green decor, Irish music and readings featured a varied program with a three course luncheon and Irish themed favors including miniature silk flags.
