Large Sunken Boat Yields Weighing Catfish Captures

Jonas and Roland Winckelpleck near the Rivera ferry recovered a sunken gravel boat and trapped large fish in the submerged wall. They secured a fifty five pound catfish and another of about thirty pounds, weighing in town.

A rattlesnake of men years old was captured and killed Saturday by N. T. Shaw, a farmer of Balt Creek township, Bloomington, stated in local reports.

Jane Merrifield Dies at 62 in Daviess County

Mrs. Jane Merrifield of Daviess County died of stomach cancer at her daughter Mrs. Belle Dorsey’s home southwest of here after a long illness. She was 62, widow of the late husband who died about three years ago. Survived by daughter Belle Dorsey two sisters Mrs. Mary Lay and Mrs. Lydia Miller and two brothers John M. and George Merrifield. Funeral at Burns City Christian church with Rev Coppage in charge. Interment in Burns City cemetery.

A Washington Sunday game between the Greys and Lawrenceville ended with a riot after betting disputes. Police intervened as three boats were claimed amid heated tensions, but the contest finished 5 to 2 in favor of Washington with Sisson pitching for the Greys and Dooley for Lawrenceville.

Death of Alfred Killion Tuberculosis Victim Near Burns City

Alfred Killion aged about twenty four son of Alex and Emma Killion of two miles south of Burns City died last Friday at five after long illness from tuberculosis. He had been ill nearly two years since measles, sought treatment in western states, then returned home six weeks ago. Survived by parents seven sisters and two brothers. Funeral by Rev Dennis of Elnora, burial in Williams cemetery one mile south of town.

Boy Fettic Drowns in City Water Pool Near Wallner Mill

Nine year old Logne Fettic died after drowning Sunday afternoon in a shallow pool about a hundred yards southeast of the Wallner mill in the northeast city area. He was found dead an hour later and transported home after resuscitation failed. Burial followed in Plainville with services at Elner’s.
