School board names teachers for coming term

Bert Deal will teach the sixth A and fifth B replacing Elmer York. New faculty includes J. W. Gillaspie as superintendent English and A Willemar principal mathematics and science, Orphan Cole Asa principal Latin music and drawing, Nimrod Slaven history and eighth grade, Schuyler Ketchem seventh and sixth B, Bert Deal sixth A and fifth B, Balsla Guthrie fifth A and fourth, Mattie Sommers third and second, Fannie O'Dell first and primary. This starts the fourth term for Supt. Gillaspie and Miss Cole in local schools.

County Commissioners Approve Veterans Monument Plans

The county commissioners and the monument committee of the No. 8 Grand Post G A R accept the Daxgees county old soldiers monument, noting it was built per plans and specifications. Mary Ann Taylor Dies at 82 in Odon Area

Mary Ann Taylor aged 82 years eight months and nineteen days died Saturday night at nine at the home of Jackson Boyd three miles east of Odon. Death attributed to old age and general debility. Her husband preceded her in death. She belonged to the Methodist church. Funeral conducted by Rev. W. H. Todd of Aogiesville at Good Hope Church Sunday at 3 30. Burial in Walnut Hill cemetery.

Laughlin Sells Interest in Poindexter and Laughlin Firm

O R Laughlin long associated with Poindexter and Laughlin in furniture and undertak ing sold his half interest to partner Huette Poindexter last Saturday. He plans to move to St Bernice to establish a new venture and will relocate his embalm ing license with family in the coming weeks.

Meads Barn Burned by Lightning Near Washington

Lightning struck the barn of James Meads county commissioner four miles east of Washington. The blaze destroyed hay and feed with all farm implements ruined. Four horses and two cows were saved. the storm caused heavy rainfall in the area.

Barrells Prepare 60th Wedding Anniversary Celebration

Next Monday marks the 60th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. John Barrell of north Spring street. The aged couple, both in good health at 84 and 77, will host a gathering with children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends, a rare milestone in the county. They moved to Madison township 54 years ago and have lived in Odon since the Civil War era.

Indiana man surrenders in theft of President Cole's car

Benjamin H. Lawwell of Columbus Ohio turned himself in at police headquarters after being indicted for grand larceny in the theft of President J. J. Cole's private car from in front of the Columbia Club. Lawwell says intoxication and blames a partner still at large. the pair allegedly fled to Buffalo after leaving Indianapolis near midnight.
