Outwits A Mob in a 1893 Indiana lynching scare
William Herndon of Plainville died Wednesday night after a remarkable act during the 1893 Wratten family murder frenzy in Daviess County. To avert mob justice for Bud Stone, Herndon posed as Stone during a jail-to-depot transfer, enabling the real suspect to escape by train to Jeffersonville.
