Auto Accident Delays Auburn Car Toward Washington

An Auburn automobile driven by L. E. Scherb of Indianapolis carrying four Odon men had two crashes traveling toward Washington Monday night. A horse hit the rear of the buggy, sending the horse onto the radiator and damaging the car. Chapman was thrown from the buggy but escaped serious injury. The car lost its lamps and rear wheel, later heading to a Barnett garage repair, with the passengers returning to Odon after a Barrett garage repair.

County Commencement Holds Countywide for Eighth Grade

The county eighth grade commencement was held Tuesday afternoon at the opera house in Washington. About 200 children, dressed for the occasion, performed a program with music, invocation, an address by Chas A Greathouse, and diplomas presented to graduates from Madison Township and Odon along with a list of student names.

Train Stops 10 Feet From Robbery Victim

A holdup near Lipton left Jamies Beveridge bound on a railroad track and robbed of about $40. An oncoming passenger train stopped within ten feet of him thanks to the engineer’s quick action. Beveridge, 32, with wife and daughter visiting in Oklahoma, was left tied as desperadoes fled. A posse searches the surrounding territory.

One Killed Thirty Four Injured in Monon Wreck

A rear end collision near Bedford Saturday night killed J. P. McClure of Bloomington and injured about 34 passengers when the Monon train failed to clear the main track. Edward F. Riley of New York suffered severe head cuts and a broken arm. Property loss is estimated at 75000 with engineer A J Briggs resigning after admitting he missed the meeting place.

Miss Mabel Wadsworth sails from Oregon for Warm Falls to assist her father P. R. Wadsworth, temporary superintendent of the Indian agency. She will visit Canada and northwestern states before returning home, per the Washington Herald.

Robert McLaughlin a Bloomfield merchant and stock dealer aged fifty five died at his home Sunday after a short illness of peritonitis. He is survived by a widow four grown sons and a stepdaughter in the same house who is in a critical condition from the same disease.
