Thurman and Resler to Wed at Eaglesville Home

The marriage of Homer Thurman and Miss Flossie Gladys Resler will be held tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. at Rev. W. H. Todd's home in Eaglesville with officiant Rev. Todd. Thurman, son of Henry Thurman, is a Bogard township farmer. Resler, daughter of Daniel and Mrs. Resler, lives south of Odon and is well known locally. After the ceremony they will establish a home at the Wao Sims farm five miles southwest of Odon.

Trinity Springs Sees Major Improvements Ahead

Trinity Springs in Martin County plans a growth boost this summer with C T Hi and S E railroad backing. A $1500 water works and toilet system, supervised by George Sargent, will pipe fresh water from a hill spring to hydrants and two modern closets. A new sewerage system will improve sanitation as grounds receive ample hose pressure for sprinkling. The note adds a line about study courses offered by National Correspondence Schools in Indianapolis.

Thimble Club Entertains Mutual Improvement Circle

The Thimble Club hosted the Mutual Improvement Circle at Mrs. W. T. Dearmin home on Friday evening June 14. Decor featured geraniums roses and flags for Flag Day. A three course luncheon was served by Lela Crooke Lucile McCoy and Rena Dearmin with punch by Mace Dearmin. Guests included numerous local society women and Misses Zella Ackerman and Opha Slinkard.

Oldest county couple marks 67th wedding anniversary

John Woodruff and Annie Woodruff celebrated 67 years of marriage on Sunday, born in 1825 and 1828, married June 16, 1844. They settled in Martin County near Brown Township, lived most of their lives here, and remain active. Annie walks miles daily and John recalls frontier days near Odon and bears on Lain Street.

Indiana University Latin head Dr Johnston dies on train

Dr Harold Whetson Johnston aged fifty five long head of the Latin department at Indiana University died unexpectedly Monday night on a Movon train between Ellersville and Stinesville. The coroner ruled death by self destruction from cyanide of potassium amid reports that financial troubles caused the act.

Express rate cut announced for Indiana shipments

United States Express reduces rates for all Indiana points. Packages under 100 pounds cost 30 cents, down from 40. The schedule lowers up to 55 pounds to 25 cents, a benefit previously limited to five pounds or less. The American Express company mirrors the reduction.

White Sox fall to Loogootee in hard luck game

New uniforms bring misfortune as the White Sox lose 2 to 0 in Loogootee. Manager Gantz sustains a leg gash in practice and cannot play. Williams of Martin County fanned 11, Taylor 5, while Odon and Loogootee defense stifled the Sox to three third inning hits and no runs.

County Board Examines Mortgage Deductions

The county board of review is examining mortgage deduction affidavits and often reduces the exemption requested by owners of mortgaged property, while in some cases allowing the maximum exemption under the law, which is $700.

Baptism at Killion sandbar near Plainville held

A union baptizing service occurred last Sunday at the Killion sandbar near Plainville. Revs. W. H. Todd of Aogiesville and Rev. Hall of Plainville led the ceremony with twenty nine individuals baptized and a large crowd in attendance.

Elks Headed for Big Game at Local Park Sunday

The Washington Elks baseball team will play at the Loogootee park on Sunday, June 25, with over 200 fans expected to attend. a special train is planned to return the crowd home after the game. Extra seats are being added to handle the larger turnout.

Funeral services were held for Mrs Margaret Keen who passed away last Thursday in 1877. The ceremonies took place at the family residence with friends and neighbors in attendance reflecting on her long life.
