Senator Elihu Root of New York was elected temporary chairman by 538 votes to 2 for Governor McGovern of Wisconsin. Four absentees and fourteen scattering votes were noted as the Taft side resisted Roosevelt delegate substitutions. Chairman Rosewater ruled the move invalid, and no committees were named. Root gave the keynote and the convention adjourned at 7:35.
Marion county grand jury reopened the death inquiry of Dr Helene Knape whose throat was cut and body found in an Indianapolis apartment October 24 1911. Webster detective agency head Harry C Webster says he will present evidence to indict the killer but withholds the suspect identity. John W Holtzman hired by the Council of Women assists the grand jury and state if an indictment is returned.
A wedding was held Sunday at noon at Rev H C Shaw's home in Elnora uniting Joseph Palmer and Miss Pearl Pittman. Pearl Pittman is Harry Pittman’s daughter of Newberry. Joseph Palmer is William Palmer’s son from near Elmora. The couple will reside in Newberry.

A Myers Bros general store in Elnora was sold this week to W. H. Hammersly of Washington. Invoicing of stock was completed Wednesday. Calvin J. Sims son of Noah Sims of Burns City married Helen Kane of Wells Nevada on June 19. Sims, a telegraph operator, worked for Southern Indian Ry Co at Burns City until 1908 then for Southern Pacific Ry Co at Helena Utah. He later moved to Wells Nevada to begin a new life. The bride is the daughter of a wealthy ranchman and noted as a leading female racer in the western states.
A brick foundation supporting a large boiler at the power house fell yesterday, upsetting the boiler and causing extensive wreckage. Repairs are expected to take ten days to two weeks, delaying lighting and power until then.

Rev L L Schoonover left Monday for University Heights Indianapolis to attend Indiana University board of Trustees annual meeting. He and his daughter Mrs Grace McCrachlin will then go to Olin Iowa for a ten days revival for Rev Hobson. He plans to return about July 2. U B church pulpit to be filled by Rev Earnest Emery and Rev L F Potts June 23 and 30.
