Semitor Hers Cabot Lodge reports a majority on the resolutions committee backing the gold standard and opposing free silver. Delegates from Maine New Hampshire Vermont Massachusetts Rhode Island Connecticut New York and others pledge support, signaling a shift away from free coinage and toward protectionist measures and tariff reforms.
A man named Charles Clark, 39, shot New Amsterdam bank president George Wyckoff at Broadway and Church Street, demanding $3,090 and claiming a partner would blow up the building. Both men were gravely wounded. Clark is also injured and unconscious as police deem him insane. Hospital reports say Wyckoff may survive but is very weak. The treasury gold reserve stood at 103,753 dollars at the close of business Monday.
Washington June 12 Congress adjourned sine die bringing to a close the Fifty fourth session. The District of Columbia appropriation bill was signed noon ending the general appropriation bills. A pension was granted to the widow of Gen W H Gibson of Ohio and committees were named to visit the president and inspect Washington charitable and reformatory institutions.
President Cleveland was pressed with hurried consultations as he reviewed and signed measures from both houses. Cabinet officers advised on department matters while Private Secretary Thurber joined the rush. Several bills were not signed and will be announced Friday. his departure plans remain undetermined as public business keeps him in Washington.
The Democratic candidate Bland was introduced at a St Louis event with cannon fire and trumpet blares. A serenade and reception at Planters hotel followed, and Bland spoke briefly. Campaign committees appoint subcommittees to push Bland in states with upcoming conventions and urge delegates to vote for him.
John Wood and Hen Medalin fell 74 feet while removing interior scaffolding from the new We chimney of the Street Railway Coal powerhense. They gave the wrong signal to the hoisting engineer and were drawn up then dropped. Wood died at the hospital and Medalin is dying. Both leave families.
The Minnesota Democrats, on Thursday, declared for gold despite Wednesday night signals for free silver. In the chairmanship fight E. T. Chaplin was nominated by silver supporters while gold men backed O. M. Pall, the ex-congressman from the third district, winning by a comfortable majority.
The Star Mining Co at Stecarns Indiana posted notice requiring miners to remove tools from the mine by noon Thursday. The men did not comply and the company removed the tools. Notices were also posted on company property demanding miners vacate company houses.
First National Bank of Larned Kansas with $50,000 capital closed its doors on Thursday. Capt Reed U S N detached from Portsmouth Navy Yard and ordered home awaiting retirement. Cleveland refused his promotion previously. MecFarlane's column clashed near Imguza. Matzbele force routed with 30 killed and two troopers wounded.

He says no man should run on a free silver platform and warns the Chicago convention may be swayed by free silver forces. He predicts Democrats can win New York state if national issues are kept separate. He praises McKinley’s silence as strategic.
Taylorville Coal Mining works were destroyed by a Friday morning fire. Five men were in the mine when the oil room torch ignited oil, triggering an explosion that trapped eight five workers. All but three were rescued after three hours. the three are presumed dead. Twenty mules perished. Loss set at 875,000, insured. The mine remained burning below.
Chairman B Evans of the Iowa Democratic delegation in Chicago predicted Morace Boies would be nominated for president without a doubt. He said a strong pro Boies movement would surge once nomination occurs, led by prominent industrialists to revive business and restore agricultural markets.
A Northeast Friday call to police followed a Lake Shore freight crew takeover by a gang of 49 tramps at Westfield New York. Near Northensat they attacked the train looting cars, stealing clothing and valuables, then escaped until Erie where brakes were set and the gang split. Thirteen were captured after a running fight in the woods.

Lexindon Kentucky reports Trannibal Buchignani a local butcher completes the smallest triple bicycle. The five foot long frame stands 17 inches high with two inch wheels. He built all parts except the wheels purchased from a factory after six months of nightly work. The bicycle will be ridden by his three sons John Hugo and Leo aged seven eight and nine. He plans an outing with bicycle friends to mark the feat.
Lixmores Kentucky June 16 Col Richard PT Gentry of Sedalia Missouri visits as emissary for Richard Bland to secure Kentucky votes for the Missouri candidate after Blackburn. Gentry predicts the next president will be a free silver Democrat and Bland’s nomination. His main rival is Indiana’s Matthews. He argues the free silver push could draw many Republican votes.
A boiler exploded at Cisnex in Todd county near Lewisnena on June 16 injuring one worker. The mill building was demolished and loss estimated at 3200 dollars.

Fireman Val Schwab was fatally burned by a stream of blazing whiskey.

John Swartz nineteen son of Augustus Swartz was instantly killed Sunday afternoon while catching for David McKughlin in the eastern part of Newark. He was struck in the head and died at the scene.
