Convention Brings Large Crowds to Union Meeting

The thirivettest annual convention of the CLE Union of the United Brethren Church drew large crowds from Monday through Wednesday. About 130 registered and lodged in city homes with meals at the church basement. Officers for the coming year were elected, with Rov H Turley as President and Rev J Wo McMurtry as Educational Secretary among others. The next convention will be held at Jasonville around the same time.

MULE BRINGS GRIEF IN PROBABLE DUI CASE IN TOWN

A wagon loaded with liquor led to the detention of Roscoe Leech and William Farrier after their vehicle stopped near the U B church during a convention. Authorities seized the car and cargo. Farrier was released while Leech remained jailed to sober up and face charges. A nearly full gallon jug of liquor was found in the vehicle.

Locals Lose Fast Game Sunday to Hymera

The Odon White Sox were defeated 3 to 1 by Hymera Sunday in a fast game. Ray Cooper returned to mound duty for Odon after eight years and pitched well, while Hymera’s Britton and Marley teamed for the win.

Scouts Hike to Log Cabin

Boy Scout Troop No 1 hiked to Jog Church area miles northeast of town for a weekend camp. Carlos Summerville injured when an axe slipped striking his knee, caused a severe knee cap wound. He received first aid, stitches, and is healing at home. crew returned Friday.

Married at Washington Thomas Turpin Weds Edna Hackler

Thomas Turpin of Bloomington and Edna Hackler of Odon quietly married at the First Christian church parsonage with Rev Leroy F. Sargent officiating. The couple will reside in Bloomington where Turpin works for Monona railroad. Ethel and Pearl Baker are in Indianapolis after Ethel's appendicitis operation performed Tuesday. Baker reported doing well. A county Ku Klux Klan meeting at the city park drew about a thousand people amid roadside explosions and the burning of a large cross northeast of town around one o clock.

Chautauqua Week Features Green and His Band

The fifth day showcases Green and his superbly uniformed band with Noble Howard Merrill Heary Roy Williams Wilbur Conrad and Melvin Merager among others. The tent will host The Storm Olivette Barnaby Entertainers and Sheehan Concert Co with lectures and a Junior Chautauqua playleader program for children. George W Ray lectures Through Five Republics on Horseback and the Daviess Light Opera Co. performs Olivette on the third night. The crowd is expected to fill the tent for a varied program beginning June 20.
