Interurban Route Favored in Vincennes Washington Plan

A 150‑man force and 35–40 teams will start work next week on the Vincennes to Frichton route with potential extension toward Monroe City. The plan hinges on surveys and bartering with Barr township for funding to reach Loogootee and Martinsville, with possible eastern connections to Indianapolis.

Storm Damages Odon Homes and Businesses

A Sunday heat gave way to a cyclone like storm around three am Monday in Odon. Glass shattered and windows broken as hail and wind damaged the west facades. cherries peaches and fruit tree leaves were bruised. J A Callahan’s plate glass store window shattered. Bert Jolliff’s awning blown down. farmers report damaged crops but overall escape from wider disaster.

Robber Enters Home In Indianapolis Break-In

Burglars entered Ed Stotts home in Indianapolis early Monday after finding a window unlocked. They took $30.95 from Stotts, $18 from Mrs. Nettie Stotts, and 5 cents from Harry Cooper. A ladder was found nearby and chalk marks were noted under the window. Police suspect a specific entry window and note the Stotts family are former Odon residents.

Zeigler Collins Couple Wed at Washington Parsonage

Tracy Floyd Zeigler and Lula Annice Collins, well known in the township, wed Tuesday afternoon at the M I parsonage in Washington. The bride, daughter of W L Collins near Odon, will be seventeen in August. Zeigler recently lived east of Odon before moving to Detroit to work in an automobile factory. He is a local high school graduate and popular. The couple will reside in Detroit.

Alma Sims to Wed Elmer Killion at Odon Church

Miss Alma Sims will marry Elmer Killion of Plainville on June 25 at the Odon Christian church. Attendants include Arla Myers Enid Gore and Pearl Myers. Daisy Moore is maid of honor with Firman Sims as best man. Sims, daughter of Alfred Sims, is a local graduate and musician. Killion is a Plainville bank cashier and rising local figure. The couple will reside in Plainville.

Odon Lodges Honor Dead In Joint Memorial

Fraternal orders in Odon held their annual memorial service Sunday with Odd Fellows Knights of Pythias Modern Woodmen Red Men and Tribe of Ben Hur taking part. A march from Main street led by the Southern Indiana band went to Walnut Fall cemetery where Prof. J. W. Gillaspie presided at the program near Good Hope church.

Simms Buys Elnora Star and Plans New Era

Buys Elnora Star Firman Sims a young attorney and son of Alfred Sims in Odon area purchases the Elnora Star from Jobnn Dobbs an Elnora hardware dealer. Sims will publish the first issue under his management this week with plans to add new type and machinery and may rename the paper. He will run a law office in summer and pursue further studies at Harvard or Columbia.

Charles O Williams of Burns City, a successful young school teacher, was elected county superintendent of schools for Martin County. After twelve ballot attempts, six Democratic trustees caucused and then supported Williams, securing his election at the county seat meeting.

Three gravel road contracts were sold at the courthouse on Tuesday afternoon. In Madison two contracts went to Ira Cox with bids of 2 293 on Cooper road and 3 403 on Mumaw road while R D Winkelpleck and Oscar Perkins placed higher offers. In Bogard township James T Sause road saw bids from M H Wilson 7276 and Joseph D Ryan 7308 98 and Ira Cox 87433 before final tally.

Lightning Destroys Burns City School Building

A lightning strike hit the Burns City school Sunday afternoon triggering a fast spreading fire that destroyed the two story building. Firefighters fought the blaze as four or five seats were saved and insurance partly covered the loss.

Fry couple visits friends on trip from Orleans to Oden

Mr and Mrs Wm Fry of Orleans rode to Oden last week to visit friends. They formerly lived near Oden and now own a large farm near Orleans. They were joined by their son Culmer Fry and his wife.
