Louis Bechtel Dies After Illness at 56

Louis Bechtel lifelong farmer from the community died at his home north of town last Wednesday morning about eight o'clock due to a complication of diseases. He was born in Greene County near Scotland in 1867 and was past 56. He married Nancy J. Bowman in 1890. four of five children survive Roscoe James Mary and Edith Feros of What Cheer. The wife preceded him in death. He belonged to the United Brethren church at Mi Zion and funeral services were held at the Christian Church Burns City with Rev. Robinson in charge. burial was in the Mi Zion cemetery.

Married in Indianapolis Medical Student Weds Local Bride

Miss Pauline DeMotte will wed John Winslow Smith of Kokomo tomorrow at the Claypool Hotel in Indianapolis. The couple plan a western tour then settle in California after the ceremony officiated by Rev. Allen B. Philliput.

KETCHAM-JOHNSON VERTIS J Ketcham Weds Edith Q Johnson

Vertis J Ketcham and Miss Edith Q Johnson were married at the U B Parsonage in Washington last Saturday with Rev I Melver officiating. They are well regarded in the community. The bride is Marion Johnson’s daughter from Elmore township. the groom is H O Ketcham’s son and a young farmer. They will reside on a farm north of town.

Miller Threlkeld Miller wedding set for Edwardsport

Invitations announce the marriage of Margaret E Threlkeld and Raymond R Miller at the Christian church in Edwardsport on June 12. Prof Miller served as superintendent of local schools last year and now teaching in Vincennes. Miss Threlkeld is daughter of Charles R Threlkeld of Edwardsport and has been a frequent visitor here.

Beaches End Sunday Dancing at Greene County Resorts

The Greene County beaches will stop Sunday dancing after threats of prosecution. A Ku Klux Klan backed visit by Sheriff Irvin Ray warned managers to cancel events and the Get Hot orchestra out of Indianapolis was dropped. At Newberry Beach the dance halted after 11 31 pm and beach managers offered no resistance. The Louisville Negro Orchestra reportedly cut its set and hurried toward Washington while Klan presence remained unmasked but non-violent.

Beeler to Meet Citizens During Chautauqua Program

Dr L H Beeler promoter of Houses Without Fronts schedules meetings with citizens during his Chautauqua visit to discuss civic and community development opportunities. Secretary John Ben Stotts asks organizations to arrange talks and attendance. Y P S C E Convention Set for June in Odon

The thirty first annual Y P S C E convention of United Brethren in Christ meets in Odon from June 11 to 13. About 150 delegates plus visiting ministers and locals attend with Rev W H Lutes, Rev Ern est Roberts, Dr O T Deever and Dr J S Kendall among speakers. Music led by D H Gilliat and Indiana Central College male quartet perform.

Gypsy Party at Mrs Taylor’s East of Odon

Loyal Daughters class from First Christian church biked to Mrs Henry Taylor’s home east of Odon for a gypsy supper and a slumber party. The evening included fortune telling at breakfast and early retirements after ice cream and cookies served.
