Quiet Registration Day in Madison Township

Registration for the draft proceeded smoothly in Madison Township on Tuesday with registrars open from seven to five. About 126 eligible men were recorded across precincts with 39 in precinct 1 and 38 in precinct 3, as high water briefly threatened delays but subsided in time for attendees to register.

The Mt Clive Baptist church presented The Home Made Choir to a good audience at Star theater on Wednesday night. The musical play drew praise for its pleasing performance and well executed numbers.

Harrison Browning ex marshal of the city and Civil War veteran was visited this week by Milton J. Hinsle of the Soldiers Home of Lafayite. They served as mess partners during the war sharing meals and quarters for four years.

Nurse Graduate Miss Sadie Harmon Returns Home

Miss Sadie Harmon, after completing nurse training at Deaconess Hospital Indianapolis, came home Wednesday to visit her parents Mr and Mrs Frank Harmon. She recently graduated and plans to begin work as a trained nurse soon, resting at home beforehand.

Government awards massive army navy shoe contract

The Official Bulletin notes a landmark contract for 3,450,000 pairs of shoes with 2,600,000 for the army and the rest for the navy, delivery around October first and an average price of 4.85 dollars per pair. The Daviess county registration board sits at the court house in the circuit court room to register all voters including women. Decoration exercises drew a large crowd with Rev. Roberts of Odon delivering an applauded address. The program featured a moving rendition of The Vacant Chair. Local residents from Loogootee Linton Burns City and Odon visited and aided decorations as weather dampens farm work.

Sterling and Hunter Tie Tonight in Burns City Home

Oscar Sterling of Burns City married Edith Hunter of this city last Monday evening at the bridegroom’s home. The bride is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Charles Hunter of east Colon and is a well known local young woman with many friends. Sterling is the son of Mr and Mrs James Sterling of Burns City and has worked in Iowa. They will live with his parents for now.
