Charles H. Hardy Dies at 43 After Illness

Charles H. Hardy a well known resident of this city died at his North Grove street home last Wednesday night at 11 o'clock from Brights disease. Born July 1874 in Washington Township he was 43. He married Alice Wright in 1887 and had four children, two of whom and his wife preceded him. Survived by Luther and Wilbur, four brothers and four sisters, he had church ties with New Bethel and the U B church. Funeral at New Bethel at 10 this morning, Rev. Ernest Roberts presiding. burial in the New Bethel cemetery.

Lane home for new hours as Fort Harrison cadet comes on furlough

Chas Lane in the officers training camp at Fort Benjamin Harrison spent a few hours at home on Wednesday. Train connections delayed him until noon and he left at 5 46 PM. He reports good health and enjoys soldier life in khaki while friends note a brief furlough.

Auto strike injures Emanuel Humerickhouse on Main Street

Emanuel Humerickhouse, a city resident, was injured Wednesday afternoon when he stepped into the street between parked cars on Main Street in front of Barkley’s store. A Ford driven by Grace Hasler and Mary Wiltshire of El nora passed, the impact knocking him down and running over his legs. He suffered a severe head bruise, was shaken, but no bones were broken and is expected to recover with rest and medical care at home.

Registration Day Sets June Fifth For Draft Age Men

Samuel Bechtel Dead Retired Greene County Farmer

Samuel Bechtel died at his Switz City home last Tuesday of complications from acute diseases. Born January 27, 1849 in Ohio, he married Annis Terrill on March 25, 1869. He is survived by his wife, siblings, and half siblings. funeral was held at Scaffold Prairie with Rev. Cox presiding.

Conference closes as Vincennes Methodist session ends

The fifty fourth Vincennes District conference of the Methodist Episcopal church concluded at the M E church with about one hundred ministers and delegates attending. Rev A F Hughes preached the afternoon sermon and Rev A Bentley gave the principal address. Bishop Anderson was absent. Rev Robert Zaring of Chicago delivered the closing address. The event featured various talks and musical numbers, described as enjoyable and profitable.
