New Theater Nears Completion In City

Rapid preparations for a new motion picture theatre by the Odon Amusement Co proceed this week. Carpentry work focuses on lobby booth and raised floor while a modern ventilating system and incandesent light projector promise cool comfort and steady pictures. The venue will show high grade films with an educational summer program on agriculture and poultry.

Indiana banks see 25 percent jump in statewide assessment

Indiana state board of tax commissioners announces total assessed value for 1,050 banks and trust companies at 95.495 million dollars, about 25 percent higher than 1918, due in part to new tax law taxing excess dividends. Daviess County banks listed include Elnora 14900, Montgomery 17600, Odon farms 14500 and 80300, Plainville 19400, The State Bank 53600, Citizens Loan and Trust 14460, People’s Bank 187300, with R F Myers noted in Washington.

Band Reorganizes to Lead Old Settlers Meeting

The Odon Band takes charge of the annual Old Settlers gathering after a re organization meeting last week. Officers elected include Pres C A Breden Secretary J Ralph Gantz Treasurer Wm Bair with directors to handle events and a plan for a major homecoming in the city. Edley Rogers of Carlisle visited Friday and offered support from the Carlisle News.

Caress-Hanna Nuptials Tie Elnora Couples United

Chas Caress and Miss Gladys Hannah joined in marriage at the bride’s sister home last Saturday evening. The bride is a popular Elnora young woman with many friends locally and in the city. The groom, a progressive local man, recently returned from overseas service in World War I. They will live in Elnora.

Funeral for Willard Kidwell Held at St Josephs

The funeral for Willard Kidwell was held at St Josephs church on Saturday forenoon with many relatives and friends in attendance. He formerly lived in east Van Buren township and his death brought sorrow to Daviess and Martin counties. Decoration services were observed, followed by a procession to Kilgore and Liberty cemeteries to honor the departed.

Married at Terre Haute Dale Boyd-Wed Edith Ballard

Dale Boyd and Miss Edith Ballard were married at the bride’s Terre Haute home Sunday May 25 in a ceremony by Rev. Berry of the First ME church. Only families and a few guests attended. The couple will reside in Terre Haute where Boyd works, with plans for their future home.
