Miss Ina Dowden to Wed Sam J Rennard in Private Indianapolis Ceremony

Miss Ina Dowden of Indianapolis, formerly of Odon, will marry Sam J. Rennard, a Fletcher American National Bank teller, this Saturday at their furnished home. The couple, who will honeymoon to New York and other eastern points, will reside at 537 Godmet Ave. Indianapolis.

Rainfall in May Heaviest Since 1913 Flood Record

May rainfall totaled 7.76 inches, the heaviest since the March 1913 flood when 11.95 inches fell. The 24 hour maximum was 1.18 inches on May 22, with May 15 reaching 90 degrees and May 9 at 41. The mean May temperature was 63.7 degrees, with six clear days, four partly cloudy, and twenty one cloudy.

Daviess County Board of Review Sets June Start

The Daviess county board of review will begin its annual session on Monday June 7. Members include Samuel Bush county auditor John L Clark county treasurer Lewis S Cur county auditor and Charles Faust and Henry Aikman appointed by Judge Ogden. The three county officers are ex officio members with the county assessor as president and the county auditor as secretary.

Mrs Nora Bowman Dies After Illness

Mrs Nora Bowman wife of Chas Bowman died in Washington Saturday after a five month tuberculosis illness. Daughter of Andrew Mumaw she formerly lived here. Funeral services were held in Washington Monday with burial at Maysville cemetery.

P Pickett Stricken In City Merchant

C A Pickett, a well known city merchant, was stricken with paralysis last Friday and is in critical condition. He had been ill for over a year yet managed his store until the incident. His daughter Miss Blanche, visiting Indianapolis, was summoned home Sunday.

Team of horses runs away in Odon causing minor damage

A team belonging to Earl Kelsey escaped Tuesday morning from the harness at his mother in law Mrs. J M Stotts east Odon. The horses pulled loose a hitch strap and ran down Main street to Ol Odells property where they slipped in mud. One horse could not rise for minutes but no injuries were reported.

New Driveway Installed at Walnut Hill Cemetery South Entrance

The K of P Lodge laid a new concrete driveway at Walnut Hill Cemetery south entrance. It measures 10 feet 4 inches wide and about 75 feet long, with J. W. and Wm. B. Whitlock as the constructors.

Fourth Eighth Grade Commencement at Washington

The Fourth Eighth Grade Commencement of Daviess County Common Schools will be held at First Methodist Church in Washington on Saturday June 12 at two o'clock. A class of 165 will receive diplomas. Gov. P. Crawford, a former Odon boy and son of Rev. and Mrs. G. P. Crawford, will marry Miss Ruth VanBuskirk of Edwardsport next Saturday at Indianapolis. Gravel Road Bonds Not Destroyed In Madison Township Case

The presentation for payment of two coupons clipped from bond No 33 of a forty bond series for the George W. Correll gravel road shows early issue bonds not destroyed. A second issue was made in 1908 and bonds were turned to Auditor Cove who defaced them. destruction may be ordered next session. The paid amount was returned to the county treasurer.

Memorial Day Observed by Union at Local church

Memorial day was observed with a union service at the Christian church. The G A R Post met at 10:00 and marched to the church where Rev A C Trusty delivered the address. Graves at Walnut Hill were decorated and a Main street parade proceeded to Odon cemetery for ceremonies.

Fire damages Dr Burkhart's Pullman auto in Washington garage

Dr W H Burkhart of Hurst Indiana suffered a 300 to 400 dollar loss when gasoline fumes ignited after he struck a match to test fuel amount in the Washington Auto Company's garage. The bed of the car burned though the engine survived. The Burkharts were en route home from Bloomington and carried no insurance.

Fine Strawberries Brought to Journal Office

Rev. G. P. Crawford delivered strawberries to the Journal office on Friday. The fruit measured about 4% inches around the stem and come from seven year old, productive plants that need little care.

Ralph DePalma in a German car remade in America won the fifth annual Speedway auto classic in 5 hours 33 minutes 55.50 seconds at an average of 89.84 mph. Dario Resta in a Peugeot finished second with Gil Anderson and Earl Cooper taking third and fourth. Rene Thomas’s 1914 record was broken.
