Fire destroyed a large outbuilding of Mrs Isabelle Lear early yesterday. It held wood coal meat and lard and likely started from embers left near the hut during the day while soap was made. The firemen kept the dwelling and nearby buildings from burning and remained about an hour and a half. Some insurance covered the loss.
The Journal advertises a reader contest with prizes including sixty dollars for best list and a first prize, plus a second prize and a draft of prizes. Readers from across the continent are urged to subscribe and recruit others to qualify, promising earnings of several dollars for few minutes of work.
Card of thanks expressed by Manford Riverton and family for sympathy and acts of kindness after the death of wife and mother Mary Overton on May 23. They gratefully acknowledge consoling messages singers pallbearers floral offerings and courteous undertaker staff including Mr Westfall and Mr Henderson.

Edgar Masters injured while unloading hay near Washington. Breoil Kirkley suffered a severe right shoulder fracture while cherry picking. Many locals visited or hosted family and friends in Edon Shoals Bedford Marion and Bedford for Decoration Day. Wreck crew to clear the McCarter crossing with seven cars involved. no injuries reported. Radio interest grows local residents hear daily broadcasts from several stations including Newark Detroit Chicago Ames Pittsburg and Kansas City. John Sims and Grover Jackson visit Eaglesville with families. natives from Odon host guests and discuss local events.
The G A R met at the hall at nine AM and paraded to Walnut Hill cemetery for a short program with graves decorated. Box Scouts Camp Fire Girls provided music and Rev E E Nef gave the morning address. Afternoon services included regroups at the M E church with Rev R V Gwyn speaking. Stores closed for the day.
1922 elementary school graduates from Madison and Van Buren townships are listed with averages and names. The June 17 commencement at Washington Park will feature an official National Parent Teachers Association pageant with about four hundred participants, a parade of thousands, and a basket dinner option.
The Bright family expresses gratitude to relatives and friends for their kindness during Geo A Bright’s illness and death. Dwight Hayes Ernest Williams Dale Cooper and Ralph Gantz attended races in Indianapolis Tuesday. Mrs Pearl Boyd and daughter Martha Alice of Bruceville and Miss Ruth Breden spent time visiting relatives in Indianapolis.
Miss Mable Skomp returns to Chicago after visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Skomp. Several residents and relatives travel to Indianapolis for races and visits, including Marshall Cooper family and the Stotts, Correil, Scott, and Shake families. Local ads promote safety razor blades and guaranteed Curlee and Hart Schaffner Me rch clothing. Mrs H T Herndon leaves for Walkerville Michigan to visit daughter Mrs E Pershing and family.
