Fire Destroys Outbuilding Belonging to Mrs Lear

Fire destroyed a large outbuilding of Mrs Isabelle Lear early yesterday. It held wood coal meat and lard and likely started from embers left near the hut during the day while soap was made. The firemen kept the dwelling and nearby buildings from burning and remained about an hour and a half. Some insurance covered the loss.

Memorial Day Observed in Local Ceremonies

The G A R met at the hall at nine AM and paraded to Walnut Hill cemetery for a short program with graves decorated. Box Scouts Camp Fire Girls provided music and Rev E E Nef gave the morning address. Afternoon services included regroups at the M E church with Rev R V Gwyn speaking. Stores closed for the day.

Commencement Day Ties Local Graduates to Pageant

1922 elementary school graduates from Madison and Van Buren townships are listed with averages and names. The June 17 commencement at Washington Park will feature an official National Parent Teachers Association pageant with about four hundred participants, a parade of thousands, and a basket dinner option.
