A C E T northbound passenger train nearly derailed just south of the Mandabath coil mine near Washington Tuesday night when the tender jumped the track on a storm embankment. The front of the tender almost rolled down the bank, frightening passengers and delaying service four and a half hours.
The Daviess County Teachers Institute will be held at the Walnut Street School August 18 to 22. County Superintendent A O Folke will oversee the event and publish the program later. Instructors include Harlan E Hah Mansfield Ohio Pedagogy and Morals W A Furr Jacksonville Ill History and Reading Lora M Dutheimer Normal IJ Primary Methods and Pauline Wainbaugh Angola Ind Music.
We thank friends neighbors and the undertaker Mr Tomy and choir for comforting songs and Rev W H Todd for kindness and consoling words at the death and funeral of our son Earl Mr and Mrs Wm Thias and daughter Bertha Mae will remember these acts gratefully

Washington defeats Loogootee 3 to 1 in Martin County game. Key miscues by Loogootee opened late scoring. Knoll, Dixon, Hicks and Sisson scored as Washington built a comeback. This wins the second in a five game series between the teams at Martin County.
James Critchlow six year old son of James and Clara died at his uncle Abe Chestnut's home five miles southeast of the city. He had been ill one day. Father preceded him in death. Funeral at Ragiesville July 19 at 10 a.m. Rev Coppage officiated. Burial in Ragiesville cemetery.
Moresnet the autonomous republic between Germany and Belgium covers about 1.25 square miles with a population around 3,506. Originating from a post Napoleonic boundary dispute, it was jointly administered then by Prussia and Holland and later Belgium. It has no courts and litigants may choose Belgian or Prussian tribunals under the ancient Code Napoleon.
Mrs. William Hubbard of Brookville Indiana, formerly of this city, died at 4 20 p m Sunday from injuries after a fall down her cellar stairs. She was 31, survived by husband, parents, two sisters and five brothers. Funeral arrangements not set. -Loogootee Sentinel. The Board of State Charities cites Caverns County infirmary conditions in 1913 with an poor building, inadequate heating, no water, and insufficient facilities. Inmates include eighteen men and six women with two insane men, a seventeen year old epileptic, and one chained patient. The jail shows safe structure but bedding and heat need upgrading and interior printing.
Mrs. Grant Alishemse formerly of Odon now lives near Henry Colorado enjoyed a 38th birthday surprise last Sunday. A crowd of 46 neighbors and friends brought oil filled baskets and served a delightful dinner. The event was planned by sisters Mrs. Philip Ruth and Mrs. Wm Graves and Jacob Resier of Henry Cole. Mr. and Mrs. Alis house have made many good friends in their new western home.
