Storm Kills Youth and Seven Horses in West of City

A severe electrical storm struck near Isaah Fielder's farm five miles west of town. Seventeen year old Ki Ties died instantly when lightning struck the barn area during threshing. Seven horses were killed and others injured as the bolt tore through the barn yard hitting teams and men. Drs. Bowman and Tolliver assisted survivors including Abe Fielder and Sarah Fielder. Funeral for Ki Ties to be held at Bellview church with burial in Seymour. Insurance covered only part of barn and horse losses.

Storm of 80 mph Wreaks Havoc in Elnora Indiana

A heavy wind storm swept Elnora destroying roofs and stock in two stores and other buildings. Dr. O C Adkins office and Morton Cole’s grocery suffered major damage as the brick structure lost its roof. Trees, wires, and street blockages barred mobility while river country suffered further damage. Fishermen camping on the river were blown off their feet.

Quicky Against Stealing Autos

Benjamin H Lawwell of Columbus Ohio described his fear and remorse after confessing to stealing President J J Coles car. He told police he suffered ten days before capture and awaits trial in Judge Markey s court. The judge promised severe penalties for auto theft and cooperation with Captain Holtz in pursuing future cases.

Errors doom White Sox as Gilmour edges them in 9th

Three costly errors, two in the second inning and one in the ninth, propel Gilmour to a 6 3 8 victory over the White Sox. Williams and Beveridge pitched for the Sox while Hummel toed the mound for Gilmour, with key plays and close calls guiding the miners to the win.

Burrells Celebrate Sixtieth Wedding Anniversary

Mr and Mrs Join Burrell marked sixty years of marriage with a reunion at their North Spring Street home. Family members including children grandchildren and great grandchildren attended a big dinner and offered congratulations on a milestone few reach. Uncle John Burrell is eighty four and the event drew many friends to honor the couple.

Death of Lillie May Farren at age three

Three year old Lillie May Farren, daughter of John and Cynthia Farren of west Odon, died Monday at 6 06 am after a ten day illness from Leo Colitia. Survived by parents five brothers and one sister. Funeral at Christian church Wednesday with Rev OC H Buchanan officiating. Burial at Walnut Hill.

Aves Mathers Weds Benj Lemaire in Texas Nuptials

Announcements report the marriage of Aves Vivian Mathers of Hamshire Texas to Benjamin Lemaire of Beasmont Texas. The ceremony took place January 16. Lemaire is a niece of Mrs. A M Keck and has visited the area several times. The note mentions a well attended band concert last night.

Bowman Doctors Treat Horse Kick Injury at Barn

Dr. Sidney Bowman suffered a painful head wound when a horse kicked him while entering the barn. Dr. I. E. Bowman dressed the injury and reported the wound is healing nicely.

Lightning Ignites Straw Stack Near Plainville

Lightning struck a freshly built straw stack at Crosby Place near Plainville on a Wednesday afternoon, starting a fire before the engine could move away. No injuries reported and crews fought the blaze.

Wheat Record Yields Reported on Local Farms

Bumper wheat crop records emerge with high yields. On 14 acres near town the average reached 89 bushels per acre, on 40 acres of the farm the average was 37 bushels per acre. Additional 28 acres noted in the report.

July Fourth Celebration Draws Large Crowd

A broad crowd gathered for the Fourth of July events in town with daytime activities and an evening ice display well attended. The new speakers stand, completed in time, drew praise for its size and sturdy build, as Rev. Trasty spoke on Glories of Our Nation and Welter Danner delivered a well received address before portions of the crowd moved to the ball grounds.
