Osborns Celebrate 60th Wedding Anniversary at Virgil

Edward Osborn born 1833 and Sarah Howell born 1834 marked sixty years of marriage on January 18 in Virgil Kansas after moving from Indiana. They have four children twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren. The couple known as Uncle Dick and Aunt Becky enjoy good health and keen eyesight. Sixty four guests attended a noon dinner followed by a talk from Rev Ayling.

Mrs. Alva Hindman Dies at Home Near Plainville

Mrs. Alva Hindman died between 11 and 12 oclock Tuesday at her home three miles east of Plainville after a week of illness from bowel impaction. She would have been thirty nine in January. Survived by husband eight children mother and two sisters in Colorado. Burial at Newberry.

Runaway Sleigh Causes Fatal Injuries Near Town

Orin Osborn suffered fatal bruises after a runaway sleigh two miles from town. A frightened horse dashed the vehicle toward the city, overturning the sleigh and throwing Osborn clear. Mr. Zimmerman caught the runaway near the city limits. the horse was uninjured.

Pershing in Bad at Creamery Manager Disappears

C. E. Pershing, manager of the local creamery, vanished after leaving on the 10 13 train and later being found in a deranged state with morphine in a hotel room. Tests alleging book irregularities and swindles unsettled patrons as directors convened to determine next steps.

Blacksmith Killed by Train Near Bicknell

Everett Boyd a 23 year old son of Jackson Boyd was killed when a train struck him while crossing near Bicknell where he worked for the American Coal Co. He failed to hear the locomotive due to poor hearing and was dragged about three quarters of a mile. The body was moved to the city and funeral services were held at Good Hope church with burial at Walnut Hill.

Death of Sarah Phipps in local township obituary

Sarah Frances Phipps, aged 72, longtime resident of the area, died at her home four and one half miles east of town last Tuesday night due to asthmatic and bronchial trouble. Born April 12, 1842 in Madison township, she lived on the family farm, joined Scotland Baptist in 1868, helped found Second Mt Olive Baptist, and died peacefully after a final moment of beauty. She is survived by a brother J B Phipps, two sisters Mary M Phipps and Eliza J Stocts, and cared for by Laura Bechtel. Funeral held at Mt Olive Church Thursday at 11 with Rev T J Owens officiating. burial in Mt Olive Cemetery.

Sells Prize Cattle at Plainville Scales

James Hart of Bogard township sold seven cattle to Tarr Downs and Killion of Plainville last Saturday. One animal weighed 1650 pounds and sold for 132 dollars while two others weighed 3000 pounds each. The seven cattle averaged 99.50 dollars, totaling 696.85 dollars.

Infant Bowman Dies at 10 Days in Elnora Area

Porter Anderson Bowman, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bowman, died last Friday night at age ten days. The burial took place Saturday afternoon at Walnut Hill at three o clock.

Jury Awards Damages Against Martin Truant Officer

Richard Hopkins, a Martin County farmer, sued James B. Huff truant officer for $3,000 on behalf of his son James. The Martin circuit court jury found for Hopkins and awarded $350. The complaint says the boy was unlawfully taken from school, detained three hours in Shoals, and released without charges.
