Parent Teachers Meeting Showcases Roosevelt Portrait Unveiling

A capacity crowd attended the monthly Parent-Teachers Association meeting in the school auditorium last Thursday. The Junior Chautauqua pageant, directed by Mrs Harry Samters, featured many young performers. Rev Buchanan opened with remarks, followed by a Roosevelt speech by Cletus Kirk and a vocal solo by Trula Sims. A large Roosevelt portrait was unveiled as Charles Sims lauded the statesman. Proposals for a county air system prompted further talks by Prof Milles and others, chaired by Trustee C H Buchnan.

Farmers Discuss Canning Factory and Fertilizer

A local general meeting at the Christian Church basement discussed a proposed community canning factory and fertilizer needs. No definite factory action was taken, but plans to support the movement and acreage, plus location, were explored. J. H. Hoglan of Scottsburg, a tomato grower connected with state factory interests, spoke on the project and fertilizing crops.

Farlen and Taylor families joined by Stickles and Norma Verle spent Sunday with James Dalton. Bechtels and Phipps visited W. I. Carpenter’s family in Odon, while Jake Bechtel and children joined Oscar Wallick and others. Several more families, including the Edmondsons and Stouts, hosted or visited on Sunday and Monday across Odon and surrounding homes.

Sunday School Class Entertains at Miss Marguerite VDell Home

The Sunday School group of Mrs. Chas Allishouse hosted a gathering at Miss Marguerite VDell’s home last Tuesday evening. Miss Naomi Loughlin led the entertainment before leaving for Bloomington to attend Indiana University. Guests included Fae Curt Porter Fred Shaffer and Miss Kymirai Dyul. The evening featured music games and a two-course luncheon with sandwiches salad pickles hot chocolate ice cream and cake.

The Core strip mining bill to require replacement of soil after coal stripping was postponed indefinitely by the natural resources committee.
