James Monroe Crooke longtime Odon merchant and respected citizen died early Saturday at his son O F Crookes home aged 85 years five months and days He was born August 12 1822 in Kentucky and taught school before marrying Maria Ann Barnes In 1858 he moved to Odon to start a mercantile business later returning after a California sojourn He leaves four living children and was active in the M E church Funeral held at his son O E F Crookes home with Rev C C Lowther in charge at Walnut Hill cemetery.
