Treating Fence Posts With Creosote To Extend Life

A report explains how creosote impregnation through an open tank extends fence post life up to twenty years by treating low grade woods such as cottonwood willow and sycamore. Costs range a few cents per post, with regional creosote prices varying and Forest Service Circular 117 detailing commercial methods. Mr Yeager plans to leave Odon as he settles his affairs.

Had Prosperous Year for Elnora Canning Company

The annual meeting of the stockholders of the Elnora Canning Company was held Monday afternoon. The secretary reported a handsome profit for the season and directors were elected for one year: Ransom Pope, Thomas J. Payne, J. E. Pershing, William J. Imp, Gorge W. Myers, H. G. Beever, and Harry Hitchcock. The board then elected Ransom Pope president, J. E. Pershing vice president, George W. Myers secretary, and Harry Ditebcokk treasurer.

The B D hardware store changes ownership with new partners B D Smiley Gewry Cooper C O Vaughlin and Melvin Caoper taking charge. Former owner B D Smiley sold the qioe to G C Garber who then traded to T W Yeager Co. Laughlin’s Main street property and other holdings are part of the deal.

Hungarian quail sent to Daviess County for release

Representative T. D. Slimp of Washington received over two dozen Hungarian quail from State Game Commissioner Z. T. Sweeney to be leased in Daviess County. The plan aims to stock every county and release the birds, delaying freeing them until spring. Sweeney reportedly planned ten pairs of pheasants or Hungarian quail to be sent.

This week Bennett & Laughlin brokered a trade transferring Pickett & Morrison to Robert Stenson & Bros of Mt Vernon Ind. The deal includes a Kentucky 330 acre land tract for the trade and 79 acres south of town plus 10 acres east of town for Mr. Morrison. Store invoicing reached about 35000 dollars. The Genera have assumed management and will keep the clerks. Mr Pickett contemplates possibly becoming a traveling salesman.

Accidently Shoots Himself at Seymour Freight Office

Fred Gantz chief clerk in the U S freight office at Seymour accidentally shot himself in the breast with a 38 caliber revolver Friday night. He will recover. He is a nephew of Dan Gantz of this place.

A Long Journey Through the kindness of Mr J P Taylor

Two copies of Taz Open Journal traveled a long journey likely around the world. Sent to Mr BE W Montgomery in the Philippine Islands, he returned to America and papers were forwarded to Odon. They arrived in good condition with pencil inscriptions proving the journey. Uncle Sam does his work well.
