Elnora Poultry Show Features Premier Birds And Corn Awards

The fourth annual Elnora Poultry Association show in Smiley building on Odon street displays top birds led by Black Langshans and Barred Rocks with strong White Wyandottes and Rhode Island Reds. Judges crowned champions as corn exhibits drew attention from Indiana growers. S.C. Waite and J. M. Smiley led ribbon wins, with multiple winners from Elnora and nearby towns.

Sugarland Consolidated Opens Amid High Enrollment

Anita Greenwood serves as substitute teacher at Sugarland. Trustees Farris and advisory board attend dedication of the Sugarland consolidated school building. The first teacher examinations are set for January 30 with license morality rules stressing conduct. County spelling and arithmetic contests will be held February 20 with winners advancing to a county contest in Washington.

Premium lists mailed for Odon Poultry Show

Premium lists of the Odon Poultry Show are being mailed nationwide this week as entries are expected to exceed last year. Egg show prizes entice entrants with no entry fee, eggs displayed on plates, and competition open to all. Season tickets available at Danner's store or the Journal office.

Divorces and legal cases tallied in Daviess 1914 report

Judge J. W. Ogdon granted twenty seven divorces in 1914 with forty three suits filed, seventeen dismissed, twelve continued. Licenses issued totaled two hundred three. Citizens naturalized numbered three. Civil cases filed were two hundred four with one hundred seventy eight disposed.

Jacob Grove Dead at Age 72 in Bogard Township

Jacob R. Grove of Bogard township died at his home near Epsom Wednesday night from general debility and paralysis. Born September 8 1842 he was 72. A farmer by trade he was twice married and leaves two children John R. Grove and Mrs. Nettie Queen. Funeral at his home this morning at 10 30 with Rev. Perry Key officiating. Burial Tolbert Chapel.

Garten Couple Celebrate Golden Wedding Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Z. V. Garten celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on New Year’s Day marking 50 years of marriage. The ceremony was performed by Rev Bell in 1865. A son and daughter presented Mrs. Garten with a gold watch, W. C. Garten of Indianapolis and Mrs. A. A. Lane of this city.

Harley Mumaw Married to Grace Mayer at Dea City

Harley Mumaw formerly of this place now living in Clay City married Grace Mayer of Dea City on New Years Day at the bride's home with Rev. W H Todd presiding. Mumaw is well known in the community and moved to Clay City years ago.

The Cody Cowboy reports Miss Pauline Wood of Cody Nebraska won the piano contest capital prize. Miss Wood, daughter of Mr and Mrs Medford Wood formerly of Odon, is remembered by many in the Odon community.

John R. Sears and his daughter Mrs. Mont Hernham departed Wednesday for Ashmore after a telegram reported Mrs. Walter Sears is in a dying condition. Walter Sears is one of John R. Sears's sons.
