Nugent Case Venued to Knox County

The trial of Thomas Nugent former Daviess county auditor charged with embezzlement was moved to Knox county after Nugent challenged juror selection. Prosecutors read affidavits claiming jurors were drawn fairly. Judge Ogden ruled recent Supreme Court guidance allowed rerouting to ensure a fair venue.

England-Reeter wedding links Roscoe England and Iona Ritter

Roscoe England and Miss Iona Myrtie Ritter wed at Rev. C. H. Buchanan’s home last Tuesday evening in a small ceremony with close friends. The bride is Jes Ritter’s daughter from Elmore township, and the groom is Jalatin England’s son from Plainville. They will reside on a Plainville area farm three miles east of town.

Mrs Dearmin Undergoes Appendicitis Operation

Mrs Maysel Dearnin underwent an operation for appendicitis last Friday performed by Dr. Link of Indianapolis. Miss Dearmin withstood the procedure and was getting along nicely at last report.

Brown Corya Couple Wed at U B Church

Henry Brown of Newberry and Miss Bertha Corya of near Mud Pike married Saturday at 3 pm. Rev. D P McCoy officiated at the U B church. Bride has lived with Chas Ritter's family near Mud Pike. Brown is a farmer and longtime local resident.

Burns City couple Mrs Andis to Illinois after wedding

Miss Becky Marshall hosted a dinner for friends of Mrs Lawrence Andis in Burns City. Mrs Andis, formerly Miss Lala Sargent, attended Burns City High School as a senior with Miss Marshall. The couple, married New Year’s, were later hosted at Mr Andis’s parents home. They plan to move to Illinois in a few days.

Hart Clark Wedding at Eaglesville Home

Miss Myrtle E. Clark and Fred Hart were married Sunday at 3:00 pm in the home of Rev. Perry Key in Eaglesville. The couple, joined by attending relatives, plan to reside on a Bogard township farm near Washington.

Death by Cyanide Shocks Bicknell Hotel Owner

Homer W. Foreman, 42, manager of the Commercial Hotel in Bicknell, killed himself with potassium cyanide last Monday. A traveling salesman for Levin Brothers of Terre Haute, he had also worked in Jasonville’s undertaking trade. He leaves a wife and two daughters, and was brother in law to Lee Tarvin, who traveled to Terre Haute for the funeral.

Mrs A J Morgan Read Dies After Illness Near Plainville

Mrs A J Morgan Read died at 2 PM Monday at her home half a mile southeast of Plainville after a two year tuberculosis illness. She was 39, born in Crawford County, resident of Daviess County for 24 years, married with two children, five sisters, and two brothers. Funeral held Wednesday at 2 PM at the Plainville church.

Chinn Undergoes Successful Operation

A. P. Chinn who had been ill underwent an operation last Friday. The procedure, performed by Dr. Link of Indianapolis, was successful and he withstood the operation well. He is progressing as well as could be expected.

Cannerburg Montgomery High to Hold Joint Commencement

The Cannerburg and Montgomery High Schools plan a joint commencement at Montgomery on March 26 with Dr. Frank E. Jaynes delivering the address from the Dennis Lyceum Bureau. A musical program and dioruses by the high school and Artarmo Orchestra will accompany seventeen graduates if all pass the final exam.

Armstrong Brothers Indicted In Civil Service Fraud Conspiracy

Federal grand jury returns indictment against Claude and Robert Armstrong linked to the Martin county civil service frauds. The case echoes earlier Gwin involvement with impersonation at an Indianapolis exam to obtain a city carrier post. Robert Armstrong later served in Terre Haute after a sequence of transfers. The report notes similar methods used in prior conspiracies and includes a separate note from The Northwestern Miller about Belgian relief cargo and a Rotterdam voyage.
