Klan Demonstration Draws Crowds in City Parade

The Ku Klux Klan staged a nighttime demonstration here with robed marchers, a cross fire light, and six initiates at a Main and Spring streets square. The parade moved through the town center, the ceremony was orderly, and participants left quietly after a spokesman outlined the order’s principles.

County K of P meeting in Divie S Co hall

The Knights of Pythias Diviess County meeting at the K of Hall drew a good crowd from Washington and Plainville lodges. Two candidates were raised to Knight. After lodge work, members gathered at the Christian church community room for sandwiches and coffee and talks by McBride Voalmece Nugent Dyer Pershing and Smoot.

Prominent Newberry Citizen B A Hindman Dies

B A Hindman a wealthy Greene county farmer and longtime resident of Newberry died at his home in Newberry Sunday morning at age eighty one. He owned over a thousand acres near Newberry and other properties. Survived by wife, son Edward Hindman daughter Mrs Belle Scott and brothers John M Hindman and Ktsha Hindman. Funeral held in Newberry Tuesday at 1 30 pm.

Daniel F. Slinkard Dies at Home Near Worthington

Daniel F. Slinkard known as Fred Slinkard dies of pneumonia at his home south of Worthington. A Mason and son of the late Samuel Slinkard, he leaves a wife, two sons Daniel and Samuel, his mother, and three sisters. Funeral held Monday at 1 PM. burial in Worthington Cemetery.

Central States Amateur Independent Sectional Tourney in Lyons

Lyons hosts the Central States Amateur Independent Sectional Basketball Tourney February 16 and 17. The listed schedule includes Bloomfield vs Linton, Dugger vs Pleasantville, Lyons vs Fairbanks, Farmersburg vs Midland, with later winners advancing to semifinals and finals. Lyons Schools superintendent JK McCarter oversees the event. Mrs. J L Seal and Ralph Seal attended the funeral of Mrs. Walter Batten in Plainville.

Funeral Attendees Remember Mrs D W Kelsey in Raglesville

Relatives and friends gathered Friday afternoon for the funeral of Mrs D W Kelsey. Other items note Mrs Leroy Wadsworth improving at home, D F Cunningham and CL Myers in Evansville for family sickness, and local visits by William Jones and family. Weather dampened attendance at the Cunningham sale.

Town Board Announces Appointments In Regular Meeting

The town board met in regular session Tuesday night and approved the usual monthly bills. H B Wallick was appointed town marshal and will assume duties soon. J Ralph Gantz was chosen as fire chief succeeding G W Henderson who is moving to Terre Haute.

Carl Webster formerly of this city and Miss Jean Morris of Akron Ohio were united in marriage in Akron on Wednesday. The bride is a popular young woman of Akron and the groom is the son of Mr and Mrs William Webster of this place. He is employed with the Goodrich Tire Co of Akron. The couple will reside at 752 East Exchange street Akron and many friends here and there extend best wishes.

Sims English couple wed at Christian parsonage

Carl Sims and Miss Neva English were married on Wednesday at the Christian parsonage in the city with Rev. R. T. Gwin officiating. The ceremony occurred at three o'clock in the presence of intimate friends. The bride is Walter English's daughter of Burns City, and the groom is Emerson Sims's son from the southwest. They will reside on a farm southwest of town.

Thimble Club Entitled to Birthday Anniversary Party

Mrs. D Gantz and Mrs J Wickelpleck hosted the Thimble club on a Tuesday evening at Mrs Gantz home to celebrate both ladies birthday anniversaries. Eight o'clock dinner was served by the Misses Dearmin Cooper and Gantz with contests and games to follow. The rooms and table were decorated in red St Valentine colors. Covers were laid for thirteen.
