A new Christian church held dedication services despite a severe snowstorm. Rev. C. W. Caulle delivered the sermon on "The Building of the Church." The fundraising total reached 442150, surpassing debt clearance by 421.50, with Lane adding a dollar for every dollar raised up to 42000.
Wm. Bunch of west Elnora Street sprained his ankle Tuesday while repairing at the Odon creamery. He fell when a box toppled, but the injury was not serious and did not halt his work.
The U B Sunday School class held a meeting at C A Breden’s home on February 1. Miss Harriett Hubbard entertained and new officers were elected: President Virgil Henderson Vice President Harve Chinn Secretary Treasurer Dwight Hayes and Assistant Carl Seneff. A chili supper followed the business session.
Mary I Sears of east Odom sued Frank Brown for ten thousand dollars alleging breach of promise after he refused to marry her following a reconciliation. Judge Ogden dismissed the case in Daviess county court. Brown, a Van Buren township farmer and former husband, had divorced Sears after a 1912 marriage.
James Whitaker a well known Scotland business man died this morning at four o'clock at his home after a long illness. Death was due to tuberculosis of the stomach and a complication of diseases. Funeral arrangements have not been made.
Photographer and leading beekeeper William Bair used a Journal ad and posters to promote a one day sale of honey at Bunchs Grocery. He moved 550 pounds in under eight hours, drawing many follow up inquiries and proving advertising effectiveness in a small town.
Mr and Mrs Byron Johnson visit her parents. Mr and Mrs Theodore Henderson visit this week. Miss Edith Stone visits Miss Kathleen McElroy. Hersene Ledgerwood made a business trip to Bicknell Wednesday. Ray Haster traveled to Odon Monday. Several from here attend the funeral of Mrs Robert Skemp Wednesday. Dewey Henderson had a business trip to Mud Pike Saturday. Earl Griffith of Jasonville visited friends here Sunday. Jim Whittaker, formerly ill, is reported no better.
Do not come for eye examination during the first three weeks of February without prior phone arrangements as I will be out of town. The store will be open and provision will be made for handling most repair jobs and breakages. KECK the Jeweler and Optometrist.
February brings Groundhog Day on the second and Lincoln and Valentine celebrations. Daviess County notes Lincoln was admitted to the bar here and John Van Trees swore him in. The month also includes Washington's Birthday on the 22nd and four Sundays with pay-days.

The prior example of a Rexall Store shopper with a Black and White Cigar and a four dollar suit is corrected as the man wore a twenty dollar outfit bought for four dollars during a sale at Odon Clothing Co. Allen Daugherty a retired farmer and long time justice of the peace for Steele township died of pneumonia at about 3:30 Tuesday morning. He served in the Civil War with Company E Sixth Indiana Infantry and was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church Grand Army of the Republic and Odd Fellows. Survived by his widow four daughters three sons two brothers and one sister. Funeral held at 10:30 yesterday at the M E church with burial in Plainville cemetery.
William Riley Orender, a Plainville farmer and longtime Daviess County resident, died at 2:50 AM after pneumonia. Born in Kentucky, he was 59 and survived by his wife four children one brother and a half sister. He belonged to local fraternal orders and the General Baptist church. Funeral services were held at 2:30 PM Wednesday at the United Brethren church in Plainville with burial there.
Dorris Pfohl sixteen of Plainville died Saturday night at her grandmother Mrs Myers home where she lived with her. Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at Plainville followed by burial in Oak Grove cemetery. She was a daughter of Norman Pfohl of Vincennes.
Rev McCain of Linton preached at Union Chapel on Wednesday night. Rev and Mrs Ethostan spent Wednesday with Walter Herron. Eva Connell visits aunt Mrs Conard near Clinton while ill. Ray York and Lowell Boyd spent weekend together. Orrin Osborn seen with friends in Odon. Cecil Aishe moves to new home near Odon. Bunkum sawmills shut due to severe cold. Mrs Harve Sheets of Indianapolis visiting her parents in town.

Reticent activity in almos city business circles foreshadows a strong year with rising property values and expanding construction. Cooper garage near Walnut and Spring progresses. Daniel Sargent buys the Lower building on Spring Walnut corner to open a general merchandise store. Ledgerwood Brothers upgrade Spring Street grocer with a large sanitary refrigerator and new counters. Indiana Power and Water completes office fixtures in Bowman building and displays electric ranges and fixtures. Callahan and Jedell on Main Street repaint and reorganize stock. Oden Drug Co. enhances lighting and decor. Verily Odon is described as boom city in the near future.
School notes report the new Vincennes high school is about finished and partly occupied. Teachers ponder proposed reforms and supervised study debates continue among county officials. Cold weather caused absences and heating issues. several schoolhouses risk fire from old flues and stoves.
About thirty Elmore township residents urged the county commissioners to build a White river bridge linking Eloora and Sandborn, joining Daviess and Knox counties. Site would be Whitman ferry area west of Elmore with an estimated cost near 20000 dollars. Gravel roads reach both river banks. The group formed at the courthouse with Samuel Shufflebarger as chairman and Harry Stalcup as secretary treasurer.
