Woman Burned When Gas Explodes In Coal Stove

Mrs. Opher Sanders of east of town suffered severe facial burns and singed hair after a gas explosion within a coal stove at her home Sunday morning. The stove, not drawing properly, released gas that ignited. Dr. T. A. Hayes treated her and bandaged the burns. Some items near the stove caught fire but were extinguished.

To Dredge Or Not To Dredge In Elnora

A petition by James Wilson and others asks the Elnora commissioners to dredge the old canal as a drainage ditch into the White River. Locally funded project would affect town property, and some citizens oppose while others favor extending drainage above the town for broader benefit. The final outcome remains to be decided.

Date Set for Poultry Show in Washington

Officers of the White River Poultry and Pet Stock Association met in Washington Saturday to plan their fourth annual exhibit. The next show is set for December 16 to 23 in Washington with the aim of making it the biggest and best in southern Indiana. The score-card judging system will be used, following the last show’s issues. B A McCracken of Martinsville, a licensed American Poultry Association judge, was selected as judge after confirmation by telephone.

In Bedford Daviess county poultry men led the awards at the Lawrence County Poultry association first annual show. Health Report for January in County

The January health report lists six diphtheria cases in the county with one in Washington and two in one family. Scarlet fever totaled four cases including one in Washington. There were 46 births, 18 deaths, and 25 marriages. Nine quarantines were set, no schools closed, and overall the county remained unusually healthy for a cold month.

Two former Daviess county girls figure in a Chicago theft last Thursday afternoon. Miss Letta Wadsworth of Eaglesville and Mrs Daisy Roberts of Maysville faced a pistol wielding robber who took $8 from a purse and $25 from a cash drawer while a diamond ring was hidden by Mrs Roberts. The thief missed over $100 in a cash safe left open. Wadsworth is known in Gdon and Van Buren townships.

February Term Court Opens Monday In Daviess Circuit

The February session of the Daviess circuit court opened Monday morning after 9 o clock for a six week term with Judge J W Ogden presiding. The docket includes probate and criminal cases with the heavy civil docket ahead. The most anticipated matters are the forgery charge against Theodore Keller and a $7000 suit and accounting by Oliver M Vance alleging funds used to buy time at shops. The grand jury is expected to review these questions. Riding bailiffs Frank Ward and Elwood Bell, with Walter Harmon as house bailiff, support the court.

Farmhouse Destroyed By Fire Near Washington Wie

A four room house on the Jonu Hawkins farm near Consolidate school house was burned to the ground between 4 o clock Tuesday morning. Tenants Mr and Mrs Spencer Day lost part of their household goods in the blaze.
