Myers to Build New Light Plant in Odor Town

R F Myers, a Odor clothier, will establish a new electric plant south of the railroad near the TI and SE depot. He secures a fifty year franchise and a ten year city lighting contract, with 120 horsepower Corliss engines to power the town. The plant will be sited for fuel access, near a railroad switch, and construction will begin when material arrives and weather allows.

Temperance Forces Organize in Daviess County

At the Westminister Presbyterian church in Washington on Monday, temperance adherents formed the nucleus of a permanent county organization. An executive committee was empowered to appoint further committees, and a full slate of officers will be chosen at a later date. Representatives from local Protestant churches attended the convention and approved a constitution and by laws.

Emmet Gwartney Dies At Home After Illness

Emmet Gwartney a noted grocer of Linton died Wednesday at 2 p m at his home from diabetes. The body was moved to Pleasant Hill for funeral services conducted by Rev N Fout of Linton with burial there. He leaves a wife and four children Hilbert Barsh Edith and Helen. He once operated a grocery here about seven years ago.

Maude Webster Married in Chicago to Telegraph Operator

Miss Maude Webster of Champaign married a telegraph operator from Hammond on Monday afternoon in Chicago. They left for a southern trip after the ceremony. She is the daughter of Ziba Webster and formerly lived in Odon, working as a saleslady in her father’s store.

City Dads Meet in Regular Session at Bank Offices

The town board met at The First National Bank offices Tuesday evening with full attendance. They granted a fifty year franchise for a new light plant to R F Myers and approved a ten year city fighting contract at 900 dollars per year. The W C T U delegation urged strict curfew enforcement, and the marshal was ordered to enforce the ordinance. An ordinance banned breeding stock within town limits for breeding purposes and the fire chief was instructed to install a new fire bell. Minor claims were allowed for Frank Funcannan and E T Laughlin.

Montgomery man arrested for pocket picking case

Et Reeves of Montgomery was arrested Saturday by town marshal Patrick McDonald and jailed in Washington County for stealing from Roy Carpenter. Reeves had been released on parole from a reformatory a year earlier after an attempted robbery at Edward Matthews store in Montgomery and is to be returned to the reformatory.

Carlos Summerville, young son of Mr and Mrs Thomas Summerville, was taken to Draconess hospital in Indianapolis for an operation by Dr Link for what is described as a rare surgical condition. The operation was successful and the boy is recovering. Mr and Mrs Summerville will stay in Indianapolis for some time. Dr DeMotte accompanied them.

Poindexter and Laughlin have taken the Dennia building at Main and Spring, replacing W. L. Collins. Carpenters are rearranging interiors and installing large display windows to showcase their furniture stock. The move will occur promptly once repairs are completed.

Professor W W Black of Indiana State University and A O Fulkerson visited Epsom High School to judge its fitness for a commission. Black stated conditions were favorable and he would recommend granting the school a commission.

Nugents Attys Seek Judgment in County Case

Two motions to allow judgments against Nugent and bondsmen were filed in the circuit court Tuesday by Mattingly and Myers. The actions seek 117.30 and 261.82 plus costs for alleged breaches including excess salary, duplicate warrants, and auditor costs. Heirs of deceased bondsmen are named as new defendants.

Healy Release Ends Murder Case at Circuit Court

John Healy of Montgomery was released after the February term opened as the case was dismissed on motion. Healy and his son Harry had been indicted for the killing of Robert Walker the Montgomery marshal who died at Healy's billiard hall when the elder Healy allegedly held the officer. The murder occurred about a year ago.
