High Waters Rage Flood Renders Railways Mail Service Unusable

The 1913 level flood season eclipsed as heavy rains swelled rivers and cut rail and telegraph lines. Stations like Linton and Elnora lost service while north Cherokee residents evacuated. Bridges including First Creek crossing were damaged and schools closed as waters rose to a peak Wednesday then eased. Thousands of dollars in damages were reported across farmers, railroads, and communities.

Mrs Sarah Sims of Van Buren dies in Raglesville

Mrs. Sarah Sims, 66, longtime Van Buren resident, died at her Raglesville home Friday after a three day illness from pneumonia following grip. Survived by six children, four sisters, two brothers. married Zachariah Sims in 1865. Funeral at United Brethren church in Raglesville with Rev. Buchannan. Burial in Sims cemetery.

Hogs Sold by Elmore Township Farmer to City Buyer

Bi Hogs Alfed Sims a well known farmer and stockman of Elmore township sold a fine bunch of Poland China hogs to Will Austing, stock buyer of this city this week. The hogs were brought in Monday with two tipping the beam at 1045 pounds. This was the best bunch seen in the yards for some time.

Newton Daugherty long known in the county died of heart trouble in Lewistown Montana last Saturday at age 69. He lived here most his life until moving to Montana last September and was living with his daughter Mrs E L Martin at death. Survived by a wife and two children Mrs Martin of Montana and Harve Daugherty of this place. Funeral services and burial were held in Lewistown.

Killed by Freight in Washington Incident

Burr McPherson aged sixty a well known Washington man was killed Friday night when struck by a westbound Baltimore and Ohio Southwestern freight train. He stepped into the engine path and was hurled from the crossing with his body stopping between tracks. Coroner Poindexter was summoned to hold the inquest.
