A barn belonging to Wm Critchlow one half mile west of Epsom was destroyed by fire early Tuesday. The livestock were saved but the barn, a new Ford, about two hundred bushels of corn, five tons of farming implements, and fodder were lost. Estimated damage around $1300 with no insurance. Origin of the fire is unknown.
A steady downpour cut attendance at the annual alumni banquet held Tuesday night in the school auditorium. After a business session at the school house, attendees moved to the Christian church basement for a dinner by the Ladies Aid. Menu included roast chicken oyster dressing creamed potatoes and more. Schuyler Ketchem toasted. Officers elected: President K. Laughlin Vice President Chas. Pate Secretary Treasurer Nell Lane.
A candle set fire to paper lining in the basement of H V Merrill's home. The basement burst into flames before dinner, but Merrill and his guest E E Hindman from Indianapolis extinguished the blaze prior to the arrival of the fire department.
Notice from Michael Connor stating he cannot raise corn wheat cow peas and other farm crops to feed others turkeys. He warns poultry ranging on his land must be kept off or other measures will be tried.
Sarah Herndon aged forty five died in Indianapolis at her brother James Herndon's home after years of intestinal nephritis. Daughter of the late Win Herndon of Plainville she lived with relatives since his death four years ago. Funeral services were held Sunday at the M E church in Raglesville conducted by Rev J W Trowbridge and burial followed in Raglesville cemetery. She is survived by one brother.
GIVES $1,000 BOND. Price M Youell, a former El Nora man, arrested recently at Canton Illinois, released on bond and left the country. Authorities in several states seek John D Clayton, the other man in the case. Youell was brought back to Washington by deputy sheriff W S Gibson and pleaded not guilty in circuit court, bond set at 100 dollars. Youell posted cash bond Saturday with sheriff Guthrie and said he was heading to Monroe City Missouri.
George C. Bryant of the Bureau of Crop Estimates reports Cave County produced 1,749,000 bushels of corn along with 264,000 bushels of wheat 168,000 bushels of oats and 10,000 bushels of rye in 1916 under the U S department of agriculture.

The little Cupid was busy in the area as six couples joined in matrimony over Christmas Eve and Sunday. Homer Myers wed Miss Rena Riggins at the U B parsonage with Rev Fouts officiating. Ralph Winkelpleck and Faye Winkelpleck witnessed the ceremony. the bride is John Riggins daughter and the groom Promas Myers son. The Myers couple will reside on the Fulkerson farm two miles west of Eaglesville.
In a Saturday evening ceremony at the Justice of the Peace office Chenuant F. Rusher and Iskel K. Overton were married. Witnesses Elmo Benham and Miss Dove noted the event. The bride, Kin Overton's daughter, is from Ven Buren township and known locally. Rusher farms in Greene county. After the ceremony the couple went to the bride's parents home and left Tuesday for their new home three miles west of Lyons.
Byron Lee Johnson a farmer from near Jasonville and Essie May Henderson daughter of Theodore Henderson a well known farmer from near Scotland were married Saturday morning at 11 00 o clock in the Washington courthouse. Rev P F May of the Second M E church officiated the ceremony. Dewey Flynn and Liza Scrop accompanied the couple to the ceremony and returned them to the bride’s home near Jasonville. They left for their home Wednesday morning.
Fred Gaither infant son of Ellis and Lucy Gaither died at home west of Odon and was buried at Walnut Hill after short services at Rev. J. W. Trowbridge M. E. Church. He left one brother and three sisters.
Vern Beasley and Blanche Wright longtime residents of Elmore township were married at the U B parsonage in Odon. The ceremony was small and attended by family with follow up plans for a reception later.
Dr Daniel V Wolfe once convicted in Daviess circuit court of conspiracy to commit arson and swindle underwriters appears at liberty. Parole issued December 1 but only learned of late, with reports he may settle near state line and will not return to Washington. The case involved Van Allen A M Perkins Perry Drake and others. Wolfe reportedly faced prior parole hurdles and health related releases, with contested claims over cooperating against co defendants.
The high school chorus presented a Christmas cantata last Friday at the M E church to a large packed crowd. Miss Hannah directed the group with polished vocal blend and the solos duets and quartets showed strong talent and promise for future growth.
The temple hosts the installation of officers for the coming year for the Masonic and Eastern Star orders. A social hour follows with sandwiches salad cakes and coffee. Officers installed include W M Jos Kinnaman W C W L Collins J W Guy Marsnail Sec Daniel Gantz and others. Eastern Star officers also listed with Mrs J M Winkelpleck and Mrs W J Danner among the key names.
The schools close for Christmas holidays and resume after New Year's. Examinations were held Thursday and Friday last week. John Sims adds two new machines to his livery business, expanding service and assets.
A parade of Christmas visits fills the week with travelers from Indianapolis Bedford Ottawa and Terre Haute spending holidays with local families. Town residents note gatherings at homes of Dunlaps Skemps Harmans Kennetts and others. A Rexall sale and a Central Petroleum Co. recruitment ad appear among the notices.
